Music is here at First United Methodist Church is fun, full of spirit, and we make a joyful noise unto the Lord. There are possibilities for participation in a variety of venues, as well as, the opportunity to express one's faith musically in either of the worship services.
The music program and groups at First united Methodist Church:
| A senior choir (Fellowship Choir) | |
| A Handbell choir (Hallelujah Ringers) | |
| A contemporary worship program featuring "Contemporary Worship Team" | |
| Worship Arts Drama team for Contemporary Service | |
| A junior and youth choir "Children of Light" and "Glory and Praise" | |
| A Youth chime choir Children of Light Choir Who are the COLS? Anyone 5th grader and under who is a reader. Not necessarily a great reader, but one who has had some reading in school. "See Jack. See Jack run" is enough. When: September 13 & 27, October 11 & 25, November 8 & 29 and December 13 & 20. Where: Room 5 at 9:45. We'll be doing a little more challenging music next year. If you like to sing, come along! Glory & Praise Choir OK, who are the Glory and Praise? I'm glad you asked. This is the middle school and high school choir. They sing on a much more limited basis, usually only Christmas, Easter and Children's Sunday. But I am open for more if they are open for more. Where: Room 5 at 10:00. That makes time for High School Sunday School, Chimes and Tween Time! When: Tentatively...September 20, October 18, December 20. I'll add more if everyone wants to do that. I am hoping to do more with Karaoke this year. Sounds of Praise Who: The contemporary choir who sings year round at the early service. When: Wednesday nights at 6 during the school year. Monday afternoons during summer vacation. Why: Come on, Sandi, this is an established group, why put them in music opportunities? Because we love to have special music, including solos and combinations of both vocal and instrumental. Also, there are times when we need substitutes. Halleluiah Ringers Have you noticed how many times you've seen the Bell Choir this year? This very dedicated group of ringers meets every Thursday from 6:30-7:30. We have a super, I mean REALLY SUPER group of players but we'd gladly welcome more. Sometimes we need substitutes and it is nice to have interested people come on in and check us out. We'll start rehearsing again in the fall on September 10 in the hopes of playing another duet with the Agape Ringers on Spirit Sunday. Come on out if you think it would be fun. (Because it is!) Sacred Dancers This is not what you see on Dancing with the Stars. It is movement to church appropriate songs to interpret the words in a different way. I am happy to work with folks on this, adults or children, if there is any interest. It is usually beautiful and very meaningful. With the new media in the church, any sacred dance will be much easier to enjoy as well. Summer Solos Check with John and/or Sandi for special opportunities to sing in the services this summer. I can hear you now...Wow! I want to do that, help with that, encourage that, but now what? Do not despair. Call Sandi Blanchette at 944-8444 (write that down...new number) and I'll give you all (probably too much) the information. Come this fall, get ready for some more music as we Glorify the One who gave us all our talents! Spirit Sunday Spirit Sunday is September 27. In the midst of that last weekend at camp, starting Sunday Soccer and getting ready for school, sometimes (oh how can this be?) children's choir is not the #1 spot on the agenda. BUT, I am hoping to have as many groups join in the Spirit this year as possible. So, please check out when you or your child's group is practicing in September. If folks are ready with a song, I'll try to get them on the program. Remember, Fellowship choir is for High School and up. Want to sing with Roo this Spirit Weekend? Come on out on Wednesday nights in September to learn all the music. All Church Concert I can hear you now. "Wow! The church has a lot of musical groups. I wish we could hear them all in the same evening in one big concert." Your wish has been granted. On December 12, Sounds of Praise choir, all the children's choirs, bells & chimers will be performing in an all church concert. As of this writing, I am not sure if the Fellowship Choir will join in but they are invited, too. We're also hoping to add a few musical surprises and maybe even one all choir song. December fills up fast, so mark your calendar now for this exciting performance! |
