Music at Epworth LeSourd
Chris has been playing piano for years, and in the past few years studied organ with David Dahl. He also studied for a time with master organ-builders Paul Fritts and Company. Chris has been organist at Epworth LeSourd since 2005. In addition to playing organ or piano for the hymns, Chris offers a prelude, offertory and postlude most Sundays -- and sometimes plays keyboard for the Celebration Team as well!
Organists who have preceded Chris in at ELUMC include Vivian Steelman Venables, Leonard Raver, Ruth Gruenstein, Randy Hunt, and Barbara Smith, among others.
Epworth LeSourd's Reuter organ was built in 1925 for the new church building. Its two pipe chambers flanking the chancel contain 1426 pipes in 24 ranks.
Almost every Sunday, the Celebration Team leads the singing of very contemporary songs of praise and wonder. Two guitars, keyboard, drums, and voices blend. Rehearsals are Sunday mornings at 9, and Sundays after noon.
A vocal choir sings every few weeks throughout the school year. More choir members always welcome. Rehearsals are Thursdays, 6:30-7:30 p.m.
The handbell choir plays every few weeks throughout the school year. "If you can count, you can play handbells." Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:30 p.m.
