  • Friday & Saturday, December 7 & 8. Third Annual Living Nativity

Guests were welcomed and warmed with free cookies and hot cider, cocoa or coffee, as they waited to start the every-fifteen-minute tours.

Forty actors dressed in the clothing of the time greeted guests all the way along through a reconstructed town of Bethlehem and the events of that blessed night, as narrator Tracy Dillon escorted them through the town gate, along the market street where townspeople were selling fruits, vegetables, bread and rugs, past the castle of Herod and his queen, guarded by centurions; by the shepherds with their life-size animals, to the inn where Mary and Joseph were turned away, and then to the infant Jesus in the manger and the angels singing. It was a memorable evening for many people of all ages.

  • Saturday, December 1. Annual Christmas Tea. Music, refreshments, friendship.

  • Sunday, November 25. LeSourd Centennial Celebration. In 1907, members of Epworth decided that way out beyond the end of the streetcar lines the city of Tacoma needed another church. They bought property at N. 15th & Cheyenne. Named for D.G. LeSourd, a pioneering pastor of the Epworth church, the congregation has worshipped and served in the hundred years since then, merging back with Epworth to form Epworth LeSourd in 1970.

  • Saturday, October 13. Awesome Autumn fall concert & luncheon. Music ranging from simple to complex, traditional to edgy. A highlight: the Celebration Team's medley of music from The White Stripes!

  • Saturday, October 13. 3-on-3 basketball tournament on Kiki's Court:

  • Saturday, October 6: Prayer workshop with Dennis Fuqua.

  • Sunday, September 9: Back to School Blessing 11:00 a.m.
In the 11:00 a.m. worship service, children, youth, college students, teachers, volunteers, anyone involved in educating children, youth and adults, came forward for a time of blessing at the beginning of this school year.

  • Thursday, August 23: Baseball Night at Cheney Stadium. ELUMC Tailgate Party is first-class potluck! Pastor Wes's opening pitch makes it to the catcher! Rainiers win, 8-4!

  • Sunday, August 12 -- Worship on the Lawn and potluck picnic.

  • August 6-10 -- Vacation Bible School at ELUMC.

  • August 3-5 -- Western Jurisdictional Conference of United Methodist Men
The conference was housed at the University of Puget Sound, but several of its events, including Sunday worship on the 5th, were held at ELUMC. Bishop Edward Paup was the preacher.

  • Saturday, July 28 -- Dedication of Kiki's Court
Kiki McBride grew up at ELUMC, until her untimely death in 2005 at age 14. In her memory, and to serve the kids of the neighborhood, an 8x16' mural will be unveiled, ELUMC's decrepit basketball hoops will be replaced with a quality hoop and striping for a half-court will be added to the newly re-paved parking lot.
Dedication activities on the 28th included music, speakers, and of course, hoops!
Photos of the preparation and dedication are posted here and here.
If you want to get acquainted with Kiki as she was memorialized in music and photos, you can find a loving presentation of her life here

  • Sunday, July 22 -- Church Picnic (Although it was scheduled for one of the driest weeks of the summer, perfect for scheduling a picnic ... we were rained out, so picnicked in the church basement!)

  • Sunday, July 8 -- Bring A Friend Sunday and Art On the Ave.
Exit 133 and Kevin Frietas have photo galleries of Art on the Ave, for a sense of the neighborhood's festivities.

  • June 12-16 -- Pacific Northwest Annual Conference session at UPS, Tacoma. Pastors and lay members from all across Washington and northern Idaho gather for worship, fellowship, and holy conferenceing. You can read more about this year's session HERE.

  • Friday, May 11, and Saturday, May 12 -- ELUMC's Annual BIG Garage Sale! What can we say? It was BIG.

  • Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6 -- Tour of Historic Homes, hosted at ELUMC!
It was "old home week" in more than one sense, as hundreds and hundreds of people came to the neighborhood to appreciate historic houses, and ELUMC's historic sanctuary as well! For some, it was coming home to ELUMC after decades of absence; for others, it was a happy surprise to discover that we're here at all.

  • Sunday, April 22 -- Musical Menagerie concert in support of the Phoenix Housing Network and ELUMC's Tower Restoration Project, 3:30-5 pm
Oh my! a delightful afternoon of music as varied as the ELUMC congregation -- from Prokofiev to show-tunes and ragtime to rock -- it was a joy to make the music, and to hear it.

  • Saturday, April 21 -- Earth Day Neighborhood Cleanup [Gallery], 9-noon
Wow! From Stevens to Sprague, from North 8th to South 8th, a hundred volunteers left the neighborhood much better than they found it!
