Friday Night Cookouts
In the summer of 2008, Stacey and Jacque and some of the others wondered how our mission to the neighborhood could welcome and serve the youth for whom Kiki's Court and the church's little lawn provided a gathering-place. The Friday Night Cookouts were born! From 5:30 to 6:30 every Friday, a simple picnic of burgers and hot dogs, chips and sodas provided a welcoming environment for church folks and youth & adults of the neighborhood to meet, visit, learn names, build relationships. When the weather turned cold in 2008, the cookouts ended for the winter. In the spring of 2009, we began again. Attendance has included families, adults, youth, children, from all walks of life.
With the coming of the rains in 2009, the cookouts have moved inside: a simple meal from 5:30 to 6:30, with tables set for games and now & then a video lasting a while longer into the evening!
