Service Opportunities

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)

IHN is a short term housing program for homeless families in Columbus sponsored through the YWCA. Homeless familles stay in congregational settings for a maximum of four weeks while locating permanent housing. Epworth UMC participates as one of 80 hosting sites and among 120 partnering congregations. Minerva Park UMC and Highland Presbyterian partner with Epworth by providing meals. God's unconditional love shared with homeless families blesses the ones who share more than the ones who receive.

Food Pantry

Epworth UMC's food pantry is almost as old as the congregation. The church receives referrals from FirstLINK for persons who are in need of food. We supply three (3) days of food. Spaghetti, macaroni and cheese, tuna, corn, green beans, baked beans, mashed potatoes, cereal, powdered milk, canned soup, peanut butter and Jell-O make up most of the food given out. So often the recipients tell the volunteer that it wasn't too long ago that they were the ones to give food at food drives. The food pantry welcomes volunteers who would like to pack food or even pick up food from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank.

Meals on Wheels

Lifecare Alliance provides meals to be delivered to the homes of people unable to provide food for themselves. The area is divided into routes, and meals for two of the routes are delivered to Epworth Church every day. Volunteers from surrounding churches pick up those meals and deliver them. Epworth provides volunteers every Thursday and Friday,

Advance Specials

Epworth believes in being connected to the mission of the entire United Methodist church. We support special offerings and a number of Advance Specials. These are:

Mission Project

A team of five (5) youth and six (6) youth will depart from Epworth on June 18, 2000 headed to Upper Sand Mountain Parish, AL. This group will work on service projects in the surrounding area. This is the church living out our call to make disciples over all the world.
