History of the Beverly United Methodist Church


1837  The Beverly United Methodist Episcopal Church was organized. The circuit included Coal Run, Lowell, Fletcher and Mt. Olive. 
1843  Land on the corner of Sixth and Center Streets was acquired. 
1858  The Church building was completed 
1964  A deed for land at 700 Park Street was purchased. The circuit then consisted of Beverly, Lowell and Coal Run. 
1966  Adjoining land was purchased for building a parsonage. 
1967  The parsonage family moved into the new home in December. 
1969 The Beverly Church became a single charge 
1972  The first phase of the new church was completed with services held on May 28 
1973  The Beverly United Methodist PreSchool was started 
1982  Mortgage on the first phase of the church was burned on April 25. 
1986  Ground was broken for the new sanctuary on October 12. 
1987  The first service in the new sanctuary was held on Easter Sunday with the dedication later on May 24. 
1993  The roof was replaced on the back section of the church. 
1994  A new roof and windows were installed at the parsonage 
1995  The church's mission statement was made by the Vision 2000 committee. 
1996  The first Disciple Bible Study class began 
1998  The 160th Anniversary of the church was celebrated on April 26. 
2000  A concrete parking lot/basketball court was completed at the Mitchell Ave entrance to the church 
2001  New carpet was installed in the Fellowship Hall and a Hand Bell Choir was formed. 
2002  Wacky Wednesday After School Program began 
2003  New playground equipment was purchased and installed and a new furnace was purchased for the parsonage. 
2008  Mortgage on Church addition was burned on February 17th
