This Week's Special Events ( March 16-23) New Web Page Coming Shortly Wonderful Wednesday March 19 we will be serving a traditional St. Patrick's Day Meal, Salad Bar, Dessert and Tea. Charles and Denise will be cooking! Dinner is served from 5:30- until 6:30. Cost is $4.50 per person with a family cap of $13.00. Sign up for your reservation on Sunday. Put it in the offering plate or on the office door. You may also call the office up until Tuesday at 11:00 am to make your reservation. Proceeds from this program are shared with our food pantry to help feed the hungry in Johnston County. Please remember to call the office if you need to cancel your reservation. We try not to have so much food left over as it reduces the funds that we have available to the food pantry. We ask that you pay for your meals if you have a reservation even if you do not eat. You may also volunteer to help cook or clean up. If you can help, please see Dina Flowers, Debbie Teachey, Izella Gibson or Sandra Peedin. Tenebrae (Maudy Thursday) Service: Will be at Edgerton UMC on March 20th at 7:00 pm. Tenebrae is a special service for Holy Week and will be our Maudy Thursday service this year. "Tenebrae" is Latin for "shadows" and so we'll be using increasing darkness during the service to dramatize the increasing sadness of Holy Week. Come and join us for this heartfelt experience as we anticipate the joy of Easter morning. Community Sunrise Service: Will be held on Sunday March 23rd at 6:30 am in the Selma Memorial Gardens. Rev. Sammy Evans will be the speaker. Church Office Closed: Monday, March 24th. Easter Lilies: It is time to order Easter Lilies. The cost is $12.99 each. Please complete the order form in the bulletin and place it in the offering plate or hand it to Pat Proctor by March 16th. Children's Church: All children through 5th grade are invited to join us in the chapel for Children's Church immediately following the children's sermon. News Letter Deadline: April newsletter deadline is Tuesday, March 18 at noon. Please submit your articles promptly. Hand In Hand: Don't forget to mail your Hand in Hand prayer partner an Easter Card. Send it to the school at 311 W. Richardson St. Selma, N.C. 27576. Administrative Council Meeting: In the Fellowship Hall on Monday, March 3rd at 7:00 pm. Everyone is invited. Officers are expected. Children's Choir Practice: Wednesday, 6:15 pm for children grades K- Middle School. From 6:45- 7:15 other activities will be provided by the education committee. Please see Gwen Bizzell if you would like to volunteer to help lead these activities. The activities will all be planned for you and you would only need to lead once a month or so. Hand bell Practice: Sunday at 6:00 pm Contemporary Service Practice: Sunday, 5:00- 6:00 pm The contemporary (8:30) service needs some additional members to join us in the praise band. If you play an instrument and are willing to be committed to helping us build and enhance the early service, please let Cynthia know and plan to join us at practice on Sunday. Adult Choir Practice: Sunday at 7:00 pm. Children's Committee: will be collecting empty, small (8oz) Welch's grape juice plastic bottles. They come in a six-pack at the grocery store. We need these for VBS in June. You may give them to Debbie Robinson. Thank you! Glenda Norton Circle: will meet on Tuesday, March 25 at 7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall. As part of their outreach Ministries, the Circle is trying to supply some of the needs for Selma Elementary School. Their requested needs right now are Kleenex and uniforms for the clothes closet. The uniform shirts and pants may be purchased at Wal-Mart and other locations. Cook Book: Susan Godwin is collecting recipes and compiling them for a cookbook. Please get your recipes to Susan to be included. You can email her at rulane@bellsouth.net Prayer For Pastor Butch: Everyone is invited to join in prayer for Pastor Butch each Sunday before the worship service. For the 8:30 service, please meet in the foyer beside the stairway to pray for Butch. For the 11:00 service please meet in the Peedin Classroom outside the Pastor's office for prayer. Thought For Today: Pastor Butch will be emailing a "thought for today" each day. If you would like to receive it, please email Butch at butchhuffman@nccumc.org Hand in Hand: Teachers at SES have asked for volunteers through the Hand in Hand project to help them with some clerical duties. Volunteers are also needed to read to a child or have the child read to you or perhaps just have lunch with a child. Anyone willing to serve as a volunteer is asked to see Debbie Robinson. There is a volunteer application form that the school requires you to complete before you can volunteer. You may pick up this form from the church office.
On-Going Programs: Home Group: Glen and Melody Sheppard are opening their home to help bring our church family closer together by starting a home group. Meetings will be on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month starting Feb 28th at 6:30 pm. Each week there will be a short devotional and prayer time as well as time for fellowship and fun. Prayer For Pastor Butch: Everyone is invited to join in prayer for Pastor Butch each Sunday before the worship service. For the 8:30 service, please meet in the foyer beside the stairway to pray for Butch. For the 11:00 service please meet in the Peedin Classroom outside the Pastor's office for prayer. Nothing But Nets: For only $10 you can help to save a child from malaria. You can donate by placing a gift in the Sunday offering and noting on the check "Nothing But Nets" 100% goes toward buying the nets. You can also donate on line and find out much more information, including downloadable resources at: Nothing But Nets. Every 30 seconds a child dies from malaria. We can help for only $10. Recycle Bins: are available in the fellowship hall and in the church for plastic bottles and cans. Edgerton News: If your Committee or group is planning an upcoming event at Edgerton, please let either Bob Bryant (965-9669) or Virginia Morris (284-0116) know so they can get the information out to the news media. Flower Ministry: Judy Eberhardt has started a new ministry at Edgerton. She takes the flowers that grace our alter every Sunday to shut-ins after the worship service. If you put flowers in the church and wish for them to be used in this ministry, please see Judy and let her know that she can use them. If you wish to keep the flowers, please let her know, also. Hand-N-Hand: The Administrative Council has approved for our church to approach Selma Elementary School to partner with the school in the "Hand-N-Hand" program of the United Methodist Church. This program is to link churches with schools in ministry to the staff and students. Some churches pray daily for the teachers and staff, assist in helping students for field trips, and other acts of kindness. Come and join us for prayer for our church and Hand in Hand after every 11:00 worship service. Prayerfully consider being a part of the Hand in Hand Program. Here is a list of some of the ways you can help: 1. Pray for teachers and staff of SES and other teachers from EMUMC 2. Prepare cookies and other sweets for staff work days. 3. One on one tutoring with a child. 4. Visit and assist teachers. Call the church office or contact Pastor Butch if you are interested! 919 965-3761. Food Pantry: The Food Pantry could use some additional help! The Pantry is open on Thursdays 9:00- 12:30 pm. To volunteer contact either Gail Moore, Judy Eberhardt 965-3761 or the church office 965-3761. Help is needed filling out paperwork, packing boxes of food, carrying boxes of food to cars and other jobs. The Food Pantry is an excellent ministry of Edgerton and many families in the Selma area depend on it to provide food for their families. Food Lion Shop and Share Program: It is time to re-enroll and re-link your Food Lion MVP card to Edgerton's Food Pantry. Visit their website at www.foodlion.com for more information. Or you may see Sandra Peedin or Donna to get your MVP card linked to our food pantry. Improving Edgerton: we need volunteers to paint, hang sheetrock, mud sheetrock, do carpentry, electrical work, flooring, plumbing and removing walls. If you would like to help with improvements on our buildings, please contact Pastor Butch (919 931-4304 cell) or email butchhuffman@nccumc.org or call the church office (919 965-3761). Tuesday prayer breakfast- Pray for our Pastor, our church, and our prayer list. Breakfast is served at 8:00 a.m. Please make a reservation by calling Pastor Butch (931-4304) or the church office (965-3761) by noon on Monday. Nursery- Volunteers are needed in the nursery for the 11:00 service on Sundays. If you have a child who uses the nursery or you just would like to help out, please sign up on the calendar on the bulletin board outside the sanctuary or contact Pat Proctor. Library: Check out some good "listening" and "viewing"! Edgerton's tape library is ready to be used. The tapes and video series are shelved in the Peedin meeting room. A notebook is provided for easy checkout. We are starting small, but are really hoping to expand. If you have some tapes, CD's and videos you wish to donate, please contact Virginia Morris. Campbell Soup labels to assist missions- Place them in the basket outside the ladies Sunday School Class. MERCI: Ann needs help answering the phones at MERCI center in response to hurricanes and other disasters. If you can help, please call Ann at 888-440-9167. You may also donate items for flood buckets and personal care packs. Caps for migrants: Pastor Butch continues to collect caps for missions. You may deliver your caps to the MERCI warehouse (676 Community Dr. Goldsboro 888 440-9167) or contact Butch Huffman at 919 931-4304 The 2008 flower chart has been posted on the bulletin board outside the sanctuary. Everyone is invited to pick out a special Sunday to donate a bouquet of flowers to beautify our sanctuary. Volunteers are needed for the refreshments for all to enjoy before Sunday School. If you would like to help, please let Linda Pough know. She is volunteering to keep a schedule for those who sign up. We Care Fund: This fund assists families in many different ways. Gasoline, electricity, repairs to homes, medicines, rent, repairs to automobiles are just some of the ways the We Care funds have reached out to those in need with expressions of love. Thanks to each one that has contributed to help those in need.
Up-Coming Events: (Mark your Calendar) Meals on Wheels: Edgerton will be in charge of delivering meals on wheels to seniors during the month of May. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Louise Sauls 965-3855. It takes one hour or less to deliver the meals (from 11:00-12:00). Directions are provided so you will not get lost. It is fun to do in pairs but one person can do the job if you cannot find a friend to join you. Thanks to all the volunteers that assist in this ministry. Invite a Friend Sunday: March 30 is "Invite a Friend to Church" Sunday. We will have a unified service with Sunday school beginning at 9:30 and the worship service beginning at 10:30. Everyone is invited to join us for a soup and dessert lunch in the Fellowship Hall following the service. Invite all your family and friends. Festive Friend asks that you be thinking about bringing your favorite dessert as they will be needing help. Judy Eberhardt will be calling everyone sometime in March to see what special dessert you will provide. Worship Committee: will meet at the church on Sunday, March 30 at 4 pm. Goldsboro District Older Adult Ministry: is traveling to Washington, DC April 3rd-6th for a trip jammed packed with plenty of sites, scenes and great restaurants! This trip involves being able to walk 2 miles or more comfortably. Price of the trip is $200 per person. They are limited to 42 older adults. Please call Gina in the district office at 919 734-5324 to sign up and for more details. VBS: Will be Monday- Wednesday, June 16, 17, and 18. Dinner will be served each night at 5:30- 6:00. Activities 6:00- 8:00. All ages are invited. Nursery through Adult Classes will be available. Conference on Hearing Accessibility: will be held on May 31 from 10:00 am-3:00 pm at Garner UMC in Garner. Registration is required by May 23rd. An early bird registration fee of $15 is for those who sign up by May 1. After May 1 the fee goes up to $20. Lunch is included. Call John Crowe at 919 759-2146.
