VCN-500 ACTS- (Y); 2 videos; Guides; Intervarsity, 1994.

This thoughtful study of Scripture provides historical background and definitions which help individuals study, understand, and apply Biblical concepts more deeply.

.1 POWER- (10 min.) Tape 1 focuses on Acts 3 and 4. It explores the use of power by apostles Peter and John and the religious authorities of their day. Shows how the Sanhedrin and Sadducees influenced first-century life in Palestine.

.2 BARRIERS- (9 min.) In Tape 2 the viewer will be intrigued by the improbable encounter between Cornelius and Peter. "Barriers" contains student interviews, drama, and historical insights. This tape focuses on Acts 10.

VCN-501 UNDERSTANDING PENTECOST- (Y/A); 26 min.; Guide; Iowa Religious Media Services, 1996.

The video explores the history, traditions, and experiences of Pentecost. It shows how it empowered the early church and how it empowers believers of today. Includes dance, Scripture, and personal interviews.

VCN-502 FISH-EYES SERIES- starring Ted Swartz and Lee Eshleman- (Y/A); 7 videos; 2 sessions per tape; 30 min. per tape; Guide; Gospel Films, 1995.

Peter and Andrew, fishermen by trade, drop their nets and follow Jesus and try to communicate what it was like to follow a stranger who spoke parables and healed paralytics. Crackling with surprises, warmth, and humor, Fish-eyes tells Biblical stories in a modern setting in an inventive comedy format.

.1 Fishers of Men- Peter and Andrew fish all night and catch nothing. A stranger convinces them to try

& again. Andrew checks his notes from John the Baptist.

.2 Water to Wine- Who is this guy? He invites them to a wedding, and what does it mean to follow Him? Why is there good wine if they already ran out?

.3 Miracles (Where's Your Faith?)- Jesus calms storms

& and raises a paralytic to his feet. Why has this Man of Wonders chosen fishermen and tax collectors?

.4 Sermon on the Mount I (Don't Worry)- The brothers discuss an extraordinary sermon. At a laundromat and grocery store, they discuss the beatitudes, fruits of repentance, and what does it mean not to worry?

.5 Sermon on the Mount II (Eye for Eye)- The sermon roundtable continues. Andrew wonders about hiding

& acts of charity. Peter learns to turn the other cheek in an aggressive game of hoops. An (almost) flawless recitation of the Lord's Prayer.

.6 5K Feeding and Peter's Two-Step- A few loaves and fishes become an endless fire brigade line of mackerel and pumpernickel. If that's not enough, Jesus walks on water and Peter takes two important (but drenching) steps of faith.

.7 Parables (My Dinner with Andrew)- A lively volley

& analyzing Jesus as teacher. A debate on change vs. tradition.

.8 Temple and Tree- Andrew and Peter view the Triumphal Entry with questions about a fig tree and pigeons, books, and boxes flying from the temple.

.9 Lazarus- Jesus saves the life of Lazarus. Peter and

& Andrew wonder why Jesus (like Judas) seems so preoccupied.

.10 The Last Supper- Peter sets the table for a special dinner in a humble place. The meal is an uneasy mixture of laughter and symbolism, wine, bread, and foot washing.

.11 The Arrest and Denial- Peter and Andrew observe

& the arrest of Jesus, and Peter denies Jesus as He hears a distant cock.

.12 From Fear to Faith- Andrew and Peter investigate the empty tomb. Jesus appears to them and then disappears. They retreat to fishing and get an unexpected catch.

.13 Emmaus Road Trip- Buzzing through the countryside in their green VW, Andrew and Peter

& celebrate their memories of Jesus. A wandering hitchhiker in the back seat asks curiously insightful questions.

.14 Inside the Fish (Interviews and Outtakes)- Ted and Lee are interviewed by Director Ted Holsopple. They discuss the origin of Fish-eyes and a theology of humor.

VCN-503 TRAVELS WITH THE APOSTLE PAUL- (Y/A); 30 min.; No guide; Jews for Jesus, 1990.

Produced by Jews for Jesus, this video gives the viewer a glimpse into the heart of a man who counted his passion for the Messiah worthy of any sacrifice. Paul is enacted in an interesting and heart-touching way and presented from the Jewish/Christian point of view.

VCN-504 THE VISIT- (Y/A); 8 min.; Guide; American Bible Society, 1994.

The skill of biblical experts and creative film makers, along with a compelling original musical score performed by Women of the Calabash, combine to give young people a new translation of the biblical text of Luke 1:39-56 - Mary's visit with Elizabeth.

VCN-505 THE STORY OF THE TWELVE APOSTLES- (Y/A); 100 min. No guide; Vision Video, 1999.

Discover the extraordinary untold stories of the men chosen by Jesus to bring God’s plan to the world. From their early fear and discouragement at the shock of the Crucifixion to the final acceptance of the Resurrection and their epic mission to spread the Gospel through the known world, it’s an inspiring, astonishing story of the little-known men who became "The Twelve Apostles." Here we follow their amazing lives and achievements.

DVN-506  MARY MAGDALENE: THE HIDDEN APOSTLE- (Y/A); 50 min.; No guide, A & E Television Network, 2000.

The video shows Mary Magdalene to be not a prostitute, but a woman of wealth whose financial support was crucial to the early survival of Christianity. The special relationship she had with Christ led to resentment among the other followers, and her reputation was tarnished as a result. Drawing on ancient texts, rare art, and the research of the top scholars at Harvard, Yale, Catholic University, and the University of Wisconsin, this far-reaching portrait compares the evidence we have with the stories we have heard-- and tries to reconcile them.

DVN-507  PAUL:  AN APPEALING OR APPALLING APOSTLE- (A); DVD; 50 min.; No guide; Living the Questions, 2005.

In this introduction to Paul, Crossan addresses challenges to understanding Paul, three different Pauls, Paul’s character and theology, and gender balance and imbalance in the New Testament.  It contains a bonus sermon by Crossan entitled “Justice as Love.”

DVN-508  JAMES:  BROTHER OF JESUS: SECRETS OF THE ANCIENT WORLD- (Y/A); 50 min.; No Guide; A & E Television Network, 2003.

This documentary about the James Ossuary, an ancient stone burial box that was discovered in 2002, is a fascinating story of the great care that theologians, archeologists, and Biblical scholars take to discern the authenticity of a new discovery.  This ossuary is the only ancient ossuary that bears the inscription, written in Aramaic:  “James, Son of Joseph, Brother of Jesus.”  Although the conclusion was controversial, the authenticating process makes very interesting viewing.

DVN-509    PETER with Harry Smith, Peter Graves, and Jack Perkins - (SH/A); 50 min.; A & E Biographies, 2005.

The story of Peter is told through art and drama.  Rare footage, new research, and exclusive interviews bring his story to life.

DVN-510   THE STORY OF PAUL THE APOSTLE  - (Y/A) 70 min + extras, Guide., History Channel, 2000.

The Story of Paul the Apostle explores the life and legacy of the greatest missionary of the early church.  Theologians reflect on

the importance of his upbringing to his success in spreading the Word.  An in-depth analysis of his writings -- some of the earliest Christian

documents extant -- sheds light, not just on the origins of Christianity, but on the man who helped ensure its survival.

DVN-511  PAUL IN ROME – ANCIENT TRUTHS FOR TODAY’S CULTURE - (Y); 2 DVDs, 4 sessions; 40 min. total, Guide; bluefish TV, 2008.
David Nasser uses the life of Paul to highlight how followers of Christ can stand up to cultural “norms” and stand firm in Christ.
