THE SILENT NIGHT OF JEREMY RABBIT- (12 min.) Jeremy and his friends argue over the roles played by different animals at the first Christmas and nearly lose the true Christmas spirit.

THE CHRISTMAS JOURNEY OF DEBORAH DOVE- (10 min.) Deborah gets lost in a snow storm flying to Bethlehem at Christmas time and flies only in circles. She is sad and discouraged until she learns that Christ's real birthplace is in our hearts.

THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS- (11 min.) Using artwork, a scripture, narration, and choir this video tells the Christmas story from Mary's joy at an angel's visit through the journey of the Wisemen and the rejoicing of Anna and Simeon.

This biblically based video uses fresh, contemporary language to tell the familiar Christmas story. It portrays Mary and Joseph as a devout young Jewish couple who are about to become the parents of the Messiah. The still illustrations suggest the Nazareth and Bethlehem of Jesus's time, and a feeling for Jewish life and culture pervades the video.

The story of an ordinary man of faith (Ben) and an orphaned pup (Eddie) that comes to live with him. When Eddie loses his Christmas enthusiasm, Ben shows him the manger and together they find the true meaning of Christmas.

Morgan Freeman delivers a poignant re-telling of the first Christmas according to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke. The music is performed by the Christ Church Cathedral Choir of Oxford. The visuals are animated figures from stained-glass windows. A winner of several awards.

This heart-warming tale of the first Christmas snow features the voices of Angela Lansbury and Cyril Ritchard. Lucas the shepherd boy is blinded and nearly lost in a winter storm, but is saved by the sisters of a nearby abbey. When Sister Theresa allows Lucas to stay until Christmas, he decides to give all he owns–his flock–to God. He experiences a miraculous recovery.

8-year-old Juanito and his grandfather leave their small mountain village in colonial Mexico and embark upon the adventure of a lifetime. Along the way Juanito experiences a journey of a different type and discovers the true spirit of Christmas.

The classic tale of a young, orphaned drummer boy who is kidnapped by an evil man. He escapes and searches for his camel which he finds in the manger of the Baby Jesus. Having no gift for the baby, he gives the only thing he has--a song on his drum.

The story of a talking doll which bravely sneaks away from a toy factory where consumer-oriented dolls are being produced and meets up with The Veggies, computer-animated vegetables. Together they discover the true meaning of Christmas by reading Luke 2 and learning of God's gift of love. Both hilarity and joy happen when they sneak into villain Nebby K. Nezzer's T.V. studio and share their knowledge with the rest of the town.

Charlie is determined that the stray dog he loves will not be put to sleep in the pound on Christmas Eve. In the process he shows a lot of adults that animals can bring human beings together in more ways than one.

Hans, the lonely, grumpy shoemaker, learns the true meaning of Christmas when he is visited by an angel on the night before Christmas Eve. The angel tells him that he will receive a special gift from God on Christmas Eve. Hans is surprised and transformed by the special gift.

Simon the Mouse invites children to travel back in time with him to experience the first Christmas. All the traditional aspects of the story are included.

Although the video has a Catholic emphasis, the ideas about the meaning of Advent are helpful for children of all denominations.

VCX-334 ALABASTER'S SONG: CHRISTMAS THROUGH THE EYES OF AN ANGEL- (E); 30 min.; No guide; Tommy Nelson, 1996.

Alabaster is a little angel, high atop a Christmas tree, and his remarkable song is heaven sent. It is the tender music of the heart that unites a little boy and his father on a glorious night long ago in Bethlehem. The video is adapted from the book by Max Lucado.

This clay animation creation by Will Vinton is based on a ballad entitled, Christmas Dinner, written and performed by Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul, and Mary. The lyrics and the clay images tell a gentle tale about a lonely boy and a widow on Christmas.

Lovable puppies, a family Christmas, and a big city full of excitement all add up to adventure. Spunky, the dog hero, begins his journey to a new home. When Spunky gets lost in the city and encounters some scary junkyard bullies, he soon discovers how much it means to have a loving master.

Little Justine wishes that Christmas would come right away. There's a surprise in store, though, when her wish comes true, for it doesn't turn out exactly as she had hoped. She discovers that the Advent time of preparation increases the joy of Christmas.

VCX-340 MISSION: CHRISTMAS SPIRIT- ANGEL WINGS SERIES- (E); 35 min.: Animation; Vision Video, 2000.

The "Angel Wings" are a trio of heavenly heroes sent on missions to help the kids of earth discover the right things. The only challenge is that the Angel Wings can't let the kids find out that they're angels!

There are 3 stories on the video.

Story 1 - When discouragement threatens to close a Christmas play, the Angel Wings step in to declare the Christmas message. The message inspires the cast to continue with the play.

Story 2 - The kids want to give up on a project to help a children's home, but the Angel Wings encourage them to stick with it.

Story 3 - The Angel Wings help Carl to keep a promise he made on a ski slope.

Jacob wants to have the perfect wordworking project so he’ll win the contest and get to help build the new synagogue. In the end he gives up winning the contest to do a kindness for a family with a newborn baby. He learns an important lesson about giving.

This action-packed adventure includes a Christmas musical, "The Princess and the Plumber" and a Christmas pageant called "The Star of Christmas" which features a priceless artifact. The story teaches that it’s the true story of God’s love that shows us how to love one another.

          Holly, a young girl, learns about Advent from a surprise visitor, St. Nicholas.  St. Nicholas tells her about the Advent wreath and calendar and how decorating the Christmas tree and sending Christmas cards can be practiced in a way that celebrates the Advent spirit of expectation and mystery.  A live- action story.

          Hermie and his friends are eagerly anticipating the crowning moment of the holiday season, the arrival of Grannypillar's scrumptious fruitcake, but the greediest cockroaches in the garden steal the fruitcake.  Hailey and Bailey, through an act of unheard of generosity, remind the garden creatures that the celebration of Christmas is not about fruitcake, but about God's gift to us.

Father Joe Kempf gives a well-rounded presentation that will help children understand the basic concepts of sin and forgiveness, realize the importance of the sacrament of penance to their lives, and view penance as a positive experience.

Through the use of simple analogies and explanations, Father Joe Kempf gives children preparing for First Communion a deeper understanding and appreciation of Jesus in the Eucharist.

The videos in this series take place at a Catholic Kids Club directed by Sr. Jane. The stories are designed to help children in their personal and spiritual development.

.1 THE LOVE OF JESUS MADE VISIBLE- Uses mime, puppets, and flannel-board figures to explore how Jesus loves us. Includes the story of his raising a child from the dead. Shows how love also involves making correct decisions and taking responsibility for your actions.

.2 CHRISTMAS: GOD'S GREATEST GIFT, JESUS- The story of Christmas told in the Kid's Club by Sr. Jane. Emphasizes that Jesus is the most important gift ever given. People should remember that fact at holiday time, as well as all year long.

.3 CREATION- Video teaches the children to be thankful to God for his wonderful gifts and to show appreciation by taking care of these gifts and sharing them with others.

The angel Veritas takes a boy, Danny, back in time to the second century. They visit a "house church" where early Christians have gathered to celebrate the Eucharist. After this experience of the joy of the early believers, Danny understands that celebrating Eucharist is a privilege and that his faith is a precious gift.

In 1858 three girls from Lourdes, France, gathered firewood in front of a grotto. Suddenly one of them, Bernadette Soubirous, 14, dropped to her knees and gazed ecstatically at something beautiful only she could see and started to pray. The video is the story of Bernadette's experience and its effect upon her community.

VCZ-309 THE ANGEL'S PRAYER LESSON- (E/5th); Angel Callista, with help from her unseen angel friends, teaches children (ages 7-11) about prayer and the many forms it can take. She involves the students in praying prayers of praise and thanksgiving, prayers of petition, and prayers of sorrow. Callista also talks about the mass and the rosary.

Angels help children remember some of the basic information they need as they prepare for their first communion. The video topics include baptism, reconciliation, the mass, prayer, attending mass with your family, and reading the Bible.

From the earliest times, Christians gathered at least once a week to remind themselves of Jesus's life, death, and resurrection and to celebrate His presence still with them in the meal of the Eucharist. The video walks students gently through the Mass and challenges them to live it in their everyday lives.

Children learn about forgiveness and the rite of Penance. Angels Michaela and Andre talk to the children about friendship. They explain that Jesus forgives sins in the sacrament of Reconciliation.

This beautifully animated program tells how Our Lady appeared to a poor Aztec Indian on the Tepeyac Hill in Mexico. Juan Diego needed a miracle to convince his bishop that the Virgin Mary had appeared to him and requested that a church be built in her honor. God provided the miracle.

An angel appears to Alex to help him understand what the rosary is all about.  All four mysteries are presented and explained in age-appropriate language so that young audiences will understand that the rosary is a very special way to get in touch with Jesus and Mary.

Angel Christina describes for children the seven sacraments of the church, saying they are special ways to meet Jesus and receive his blessing.  She shares some of the outward signs of the sacraments like water, chrism, rings, and bread and wine.

                The DVD includes four programs. 


        (1) WHAT IS THE BIBLE? (16 min.)
        The story of God's love for us has two parts in the Bible.  In the Hebrew Scriptures (God's loving relationship with Israel), we learn the story through the Law (Torah), Historical Books, Wisdom Books, and Prophetic Books.  In the Christian Scriptures (God's loving relationship with us in Jesus). we learn the story through the Gospels, Acts of the Apostles, Letters, and the Book of Revelation.  The video helps children deepen their appreciation and understanding of the Bible as God's Word for their daily lives and helps them realize that God's friendship with us will never end.
        (2) WHAT IS A SACRAMENT? (11 min.)
The DVD teaches an appreciation of sacraments as actions and expressions of God’s love within the Christian community.
        (3) WHAT IS THE CHURCH? (12 min.)
The Church is the Family of God, a sign of God's presence in the world, a sign that points out Christ to others.  This video explores the meanings of home church, parish church, and world church and challenges believers to become a faith community that continues to do what Jesus did and taught in caring about others, especially the poor and needy.  (also on videocassette – VCC-309.)
        (4) A TOUR OF OUR PARISH CHURCH  (12 min.)
This session shows a tour of a Catholic Church with older students as they learn the names and discover the meaning of the objects of the Catholic faith that help believers remember and celebrate God’s presence.
