A video for small children about the celebrations of the Christian Church. Segments included are: What Is the Church?, The Church Year, Special Times, Baptism, The Lord's Supper, What Is a Christian Steward?, Advent/Christmas, Epiphany, Lent/Easter, Holy Week and Pentecost.

VCM-300 THAT'S RIGHT (UNICEF)- (E/A); 14 min.; Guide; National Film Board of Canada, 1989.

Video compares the lives of children in an African village and a North American city. It examines the lifestyles, chores, parents, schools, dreams and hopes of today's children. Concludes with an outline of the Convention of the Rights of the Child.

VCM-301 THE RETREAT- (J/JH); 16 min.; Guide; UMC, 1992.

Designed for use in confirmation classes, this program helps youth to learn about the social principles of the UMC and to begin to apply these principles to their lives. Can be used ecumenically. Discusses the environment and respecting people who are different from themselves.

VCM-302 ONE LITTLE HEIFER- (K/E); Cartoon with live narration; 8 min.; Heifer Project International, 1993. 

One Little Heifer storybook is read while a cartoon videostrip is played. Video shows children what Heifer Project International is and how it works.

VCM-303 MAKE A LITTLE DIFFERENCE- (J/Y); 14:08 min.; UN High Commissioner For Refugees, 1993.

Refugee children aged about 10 - 13 share their experiences of having to flee their countries, and U. S. children share compassionate ways to make a difference in the way children of the world are treated. The Declaration of the Rights of the Child is shared.

VCM-304 AFRICAN TALES- (K/E); Live action/drawings; 23 min.; Guide; Friendship Press, 1992.

The video features three African fables- "Banana Thieves", "The Spider and the Antelope", and "The Boastful Crocodile". Each is introduced by a young man from So. Africa who explains how animals are used to pass on cultural traditions and lessons in African society. Includes a 4-minute segment entitled "Children of Zaire" with scenes of daily life.

VCM-305 THE PROMISE (HEIFER PROJECT INTERNATIONAL)- (E); 9 min.; Dick Young, 1995.

Shows the joy experienced by a child in India when American school children send her family a buffalo through Heifer Project International. Part 2 portrays the excitement of a little girl in Uganda when her Heifer Project goat has a baby which will pay for her to go to school.

VCM-306 FAMILIES OF MEXICO- (K/E); 30 min.; Guide; World Eagle, 2000.

The video documents a day in the life of an urban and a rural family in Mexico. The program is narrated by children and the experiences are seen from a child's point of view. Adults can learn from this as well as children.

VCM-307 RHYTHMS OF PEACE SERIES- (E19); 2 videos; 39 & 65 min.; Guides; Mennonite Media, 99 &2001.

These videos demonstrate how the best way to have a more peaceful world is to instill peaceful values in children. The stories help teach teamwork, communication skills, empathy, conflict resolution, ways to reduce prejudice, friendship building, and self-control.

.1 AROUND THE WORLD- 6 segments, 39 min.- A mix of music, fiction, and mini-documentaries helps children learn what it's like to live in other places, to be children in other ethnic groups, and how to cope with prejudice. The video shows stories from Bulgaria, Cuba, and Jamaica.

.2 WHEN YOUR ARGUMENT GOES BUST- 5 segments, 65 min.- The video includes stories, music, and poems, with an appearance by folk-singer John McCutcheon.

VCM-308 KIDS AROUND THE WORLD- (K/E); 10:45 min. No guide; Caleb Project, 1999.

The video will broaden kids' understanding of the world as they learn about the history, geography, and religions of other countries. Kids will learn about the 10/40 Window, a rectangular geographic area which spans from West Africa to East Asia. Most people in this area have never heard about Jesus.

DVM-309 SADAKO AND THE THOUSAND CRANES- (C/A); 30 min.; The Sadako Project, 1991.

Set in 1955, this is the true story of Sadako Sasaki, a young Japanese girl who developed leukemia from radiation caused by the bombing of Hiroshima. While Sadako was hospitalized, her closest friend reminded her of the legend that if she folded 1000 paper cranes, the gods might grant her wish to be well again. Eleanor Coerr's classic story is vividly told by Liv Ullman with music by George Winston as the camera pans through hundreds of exquisite pastel drawings by award-winning artist Ed Young.
