In a distant northern land, a little Inuit girl asks, "Mama, do you love me?"  The answer makes for a charming tale of affection, adventure, and wonder in this magically animated adaptation of the award-winning children's book.  Set amid an Arctic realm of spellbinding beauty, the story follows young Nyla as she disobeys her mother and journeys from village to ice floe in search of her wayward puppy.  As Nyla discovers, no matter what mischief a child gets into, a mother's love is unconditional and enduring.

This documentary helps kids see and understand many of the shapes that families take together.  The children in the video take the viewer on a tour through their lives and speak about their unique family struggles.  Terms like "birth mom," "mixed race," "guardian," "gay and lesbian," and "stepdad" are included.

Video leads young children to appreciate God's gifts of the five senses. Through animated images the children learn to appreciate the world around them and to recognize how special and unique each person is.

VCG-301 CREATION STORIES: GOD MADE THE WORLD AND HOW THE ANIMALS GOT THEIR NAMES-

Part One is an inventive retelling of the creation story which helps children discover that God made the world out of love. The second story show how children take delight in naming their pets and in taking responsibility for them. In the same way God loves and cares for His creation.

Pastor Martin E. Marty opens up the Faith Tool Box and talks with children about how they can use their religious faith in times of fear and uncertainty, from acts of terrorism in the world to dealing with the bully down the street. The children also discuss: What frightens you? Who helps you in times of fear? We are God’s Peacemakers? God is with you.

This computer-animated video version of the best-selling children's book by Sandy Eisenberg Sasso helps children to better realize their relationship to God and to others. The video presents the many different names for God.

VCH-300 VICTOR- (E); 26:30 min.; Guide; Barr, l989.

Victor feels like a "loser" because he's torn between two worlds–his Hispanic home and his school. He is upset because his Mother does not speak English. A resolution of some of the conflict helps the viewer understand the need for tolerance and perseverance.

VCH-301 HALMANI- (C/A); 30 min.; guide; Pyramid,1988.

Kathy, a 10-year old Amerasian girl, is excited about the arrival of Halmani, her grandmother from Korea. As Halmani's strange ways clash with Kathy's modern world, she becomes upset and angry. Kathy overcomes her resentment through the love and respect she and Halmani develop for each other.

VCH-302 KITES AND OTHER TALES- (E); 12 min.; Cross Current Media, 1990.

Kites originated from Asia, and modern kite maker Tom Joe seeks to preserve the craft as well as the folklore behind it. Includes description of Shirone, Japan, "the kite-crazy town" where 20-ft. kites duel in magnificent matches. Children will be inspired to try kite - making.

VCH-303 THE SPIRIT BAY SERIES- (J/JH); 28 min. ea.; Guide; Altschul/Beacon, 1985. 

Series takes children into a contemporary Native American Community. The themes evoke universal values to which children in all cultures can relate. The actual setting includes Rocky Bay Reserve on the south shores of Lake Nipigon, Ontario.

.1 RABBIT GOES FISHING Ralph, a young orphan from the city, is belligerent and unfriendly when he arrives in Spirit Bay to live with Annie and her husband, Cheemo. Cheemo shows great understanding of Ralph and his fear of rejection. Cheemo dubs him "Rabbit" and convinces him that he has found a real home.

.2 RABBIT PULLS HIS WEIGHT Rabbit and Minnow see a plane crash while they are hiking in the snowy wilderness. While Minnow goes for help, Rabbit improvises a sled to transport the injured pilot. Rabbit bravely endures an icy-cold rescue ordeal and develops a special bond with the woman pilot. Good for discussion on the suffering of Jesus and his rescue of each of us.

VCH-304 KWANZAA- (E); 10 min.; Guide; United Learning, 1994. 

The program explains the difference between the ancient African holiday of Kwanza which was a harvest festival, and the modern holiday, Kwanzaa, which is celebrated to help African-Americans better understand their heritage and to build strong bonds in African--American families.

VCH-305 MAKE A WISH, MOLLY- (E); 30 min.; Phoenix Films, 1995.

Another story of Molly, a young Russian Jewish girl, who is constantly being teased for her ethnic mannerisms. When Molly is invited to a birthday party, her mother tells about food restrictions during Passover and asks her not to eat any birthday cake. Molly is faced with the dilemma of obeying Jewish law or disobeying in order to fit in.

VCH-306 HOW WE'RE DIFFERENT AND ALIKE- (E); 10 min.; Guide; United Learning, 1994.

The first part of the video introduces four children who have many differences: interests, abilities, ethnic heritage, and community values. The second part of the program shows how people are alike.

VCH-307 I HAVE A FRIEND- (E); 10 min.; Guide; Videostrip; Friendship Press, 1996.

Children from a wide spectrum of ethnic groups are shown at play and in various settings while the song, "I Have a Friend" is heard in English, Spanish, Korean, and Cree. The video provides an excellent way to introduce children to what it means to appreciate and affirm the infinite variety and beauty of all humankind.

VCH-308 DIFFERENT AND THE SAME- (K/Pri); 5 videos; 14 min. ea.; Guides; Puppet Animation; EcuFilm, 1995.

School children (puppets) are helped to resolve difficult situations by gaining greater understanding and making positive solutions. Themes include name-calling, being excluded, friendships across racial lines, defining who is American and standing up against prejudice.

A two-part video resource to help viewers expand their understanding of stewardship to include concern for all of God's creatures. Part I uses a variety of beautiful and dramatic scenes to provide a back drop for story-tellers from 3 different cultures. Part II features a workshop to show the ways video can be used with all age groups.

Ralphie the Dog lives in a typical suburban house with his four humans who use too many toxic products, too much energy, too much water, and create too much garbage. He uses every trick to teach his humans how to care for the environment.

A grateful brown pelican, after being rescued by Andrew & his friends, finds he has the gift of speech and encourages the kids in words and music ("Yes I Can") to take care of God's world.

Video demonstrates the ways children can do something about environmental problems each day. Shows how these actions are rooted in Gospel values and the message of Jesus.
