Where There’s a Need There’s Jean Reed
Lifelong Emory Member honored as a 2007
Howard County Volunteer of The Year
Hazel Jean (Massey) Reed, lifetime member of Emory United Methodist Church was recently recognized
along with 44 other individuals and 8 groups as a Howard County Volunteer of the Year for 2007 for
her work caring for the sick, feeding the hungry,
and providing personal care, housework, haircuts and companionship for those in need.
Her work at Emory includes serving as a fundraiser, Trustee, nursery care attendant, chair of the
church’s Christmas Angel Tree Project and Grassroots Fish Pantry. In addition, Jean has collected
clothing and toiletries for the Men’s Shelter and the Late Bea Gaddy in Baltimore City, as well
as food for the Church for the Deaf. She also organized a campaign to raise money for latrines
in Nicaragua through the church missions there.

mature individual and deserving of any honor bestowed upon her - all executed without thoughts of
reciprocation, fame or fortune. She anticipates need without request and is extremely generous
