Thanks
for visiting our website!
We
all share a faith in Jesus Christ, but the church encourages us
to think for ourselves, so we don't necessarily share the same
opinions about every faith issue or social concern. We
aren't striving to be all the same, but we are striving to work
together to make our world and community a better place.
We
are an active congregation and we hope you'll take the
opportunity to worship with us. We are safe place to seek
answers to questions about life and faith in God through Jesus
Christ. Our hearts, our minds, our doors are always open!
See
you in church!

Friendship Dinners and
the Emmett Food Bank
We are especially proud
of our association with the Emmett Food Bank. Every Tuesday evening our church hosts the
"Friendship Dinner" - a free, community dinner. Each week we
serve about 150 of our friends and neighbors. Meals are prepared in our
kitchen by volunteers from several community churches and youth
organizations.

Camping!
We have one the best
Christian camping programs in the United States. Our church has access to
six camps and retreat centers strategically located throughout our
Conference. Each camp is unique and provides its own wonderful
opportunities, from the rustic Camp Sawtooth, located high in the
mountains north of Fairfield, Idaho, to the wonderful Camp Magruder on the
Oregon coast near Tillamook. The Church also maintains the Collins Retreat
Center near Portland. Visit www.gocamping.org |
| There
are 36,000 Methodist churches in the United States; 10 million Methodists
worldwide! John Wesley, founder of the Methodist Movement in England in
the mid-1700's said it best, almost 300 years ago: "The world is our
parish". The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) responds to
disasters in Hindu India and Islamic Turkey. Volunteers in Missions Teams
(VIM) go to the most poverty stricken parts of the globe. Bishops and
regular church members live out lives of faith in war zones.
Although local churches are
joined by an organizational network of "connectionalism", it
is not a traditional hierarchy. There is no one person who heads the
denomination. Once every four years, representatives of the "Annual
Conferences" (we are part of the Oregon-Idaho Annual Conference) meet at our General Conference to make important
decisions regarding our policy and practices. We aren't afraid to tackle
the tough issues of racism, poverty, humans rights, human sexuality, labor
issues, gender equality or environmental issues. Social advocacy and
action have been part of our church since it began. We are no less
committed today. |
