Why does God delay when we pray so fervently and need
him so desperately?
Question: Why does God delay when
we pray so fervently and need him so desperately?
Answer: The answer may be that God is waiting for
the most opportune time to display his power and use us for his glory.
Lazarus was very sick (John 11). His sisters, Martha and Mary, sent
word to their dear friend, Jesus. Yet, when he heard Lazarus was ill,
Jesus stayed where he was for two more days. When he arrived in Bethany,
Lazarus had already died and as in the tomb.
Mary and Martha both questioned Jesus' delay. Had Jesus arrived sooner,
Lazarus would be alived. And Jesus was deeply moved by their grief of
those who had come to console the family. Jesus commanded the stone
be removed from the tomb's entrance, and prayed to the Father. Then
he called to Lazarus, and Lazarus came out of the grave.
Mary and Martha wanted their brother healed so they would enjoy his
love, friendship and presence. Jesus wanted to raise a dead man so the
world could see and know the awesome power of God that draws men to
himself. The gospel writer, John, said that many Jews placed their faith
in Jesus as a result of this miracle. God knows your circumstances.
He loves you as he loved Lazarus. Trust his timing. Don't give up (John
11:1-15). His plans to use you for his glory are far greater than you
can ever imagine.
