JUNE 2008 “CIRCUIT RIDER”

From the Pastor:

On May 11, 2008, Emmanuel Church celebrated Pentecost Sunday- the coming of the Holy Spirit. As a part of our worship together, the Sacrament of Anointing was observed. As many came forward to recommit their lives to Christ and to heed the calling of his Holy Spirit, I was extremely blessed and inspired.  As the scripture of the day spoke of “seeing visions” and “dreaming dreams,” I could not help but realize the call God has put on Emmanuel Church. We have been so blessed in the past year to see revitalization in many areas. This has occurred largely because we have responded to the call of the spirit. As a part of our evangelical heritage, we are witnessing renewal as we pursue the Lord in our worship, our prayer and our service.

During the past year, I have served the Emmanuel and Savannah churches on a shared part time basis. In late April, the pastor parish committee made the decision to ask the Bishop that I be appointed to Emmanuel on a ¾ quarter time basis as of July 1, 2008. I am looking forward to serving the church on this basis. It is our intent to continue our stewardship by not only increasing our pastoral support but also staying committed to one hundred percent our of shared apportionment giving. This step of faith is just one more step in following the call of the Holy Spirit fro the future of our church.

Many exciting things are planned for our fellowship. This can only be accomplished by renewal and commitment. Renewal must constantly be in our hearts and souls to further the ministry through Emmanuel Church. We need to remain committed not only to the financial stewardship but also to the spiritual support of the each other. Currently, we have begun a capital campaign to repair our sanctuary. We also continue to be blessed by our children’s program and Sunday school, our youth and our musical/ choral program, our Christian women’s club and our Breakfast Center

We continue to see the Lord work as he draws new life into our fellowship.

During the month of June, I ask each one of you to pray for me as well as the church as we transition in to a new phase of ministry. As Helen Earley, our historian continues to share Emmanuel historical moments with us, may we look to the past for inspiration and to the present and future for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that the Lord is showering upon us. God bless you and keep you in his care.

Rev. John

TRUSTEES REQUEST-RETURN OF CHURCH EQUIPMENT-The trustees have learned that some of our equipment needed throughout the church, including tables, kitchen items and keys may have been borrowed by members, and not properly returned. If you may have borrowed something for use at home, (maybe a reception?) please make an effort to return it promptly. If you have borrowed a key, or you were issued a key for a position that you no longer hold, please return that also either to the office or Keith Kelley. If on the other hand, you have a need for your key by all means hold on to it. We will be developing a policy soon for borrowing items and will be surveying our key holders also.  Thank you, Keith Kelley, Trustee Chair

We are pleased to inform you that Ashland Breakfast Center has received a grant in the amount of $500.

This grant is now in your account at the Cleveland Foodbank and is available for immediate use. The grant money may be used for both food and non-food items for your agency. For example, in addition to all food items on the menu this grant can also cover paper bags and personal items for your pantries and paper products and supplies for your hot meals. This grant cannot, however, be used as payment toward any outstanding invoices.

This gift is made possible from the generosity from an anonymous corporate donor. The intent of this grant is to provide additional support to help you serve the ever-increasing numbers of people seeking help at your hunger-relief programs.

The Cleveland Foodbank recognizes and admires the outstanding work each of you do and we thank you for your dedication and compassion in feeding hungry neighbors and children in your communities. It is our pleasure to partner with your agency and we hope this grant money will allow you to make an even greater impact and difference in the lives of those you serve.    Sincerely, Anne Goodman, Executive Director
