Meet the Pastor


Arlan E. Johnsen uses the nickname of “AJ”; so most know him by AJ rather than Arlan.  AJ has a rich heritage in an agricultural background.  He was born in Nebraska to a farming family and working many years for farm supply stores and commercial farm related sales.

AJ held many different positions in United Methodist Churches over the years.  This included filling the pulpit as a lay speaker, which involved churches in several other denominations in addition to the United Methodist Churches.

He was encouraged to go into the ministry full time as a “second career” vocation.  He is licensed as a Local Pastor and had served several churches up to his retirement in 2008.  He was approached to come out of retirement in June of 2011 to serve the Simla and Ellicott congregations. 

AJ’s partner is Elaine.  She blesses him with awesome support in his clergy activities.  They have four adult children of which three are married, and five grandchildren. 

Great is the Lord, who would give us His son to empower us to serve Him in the call to spread the Good News to the world around us.
