MISSION OUTREACH

Project Crossroads

Project Crossroads Team The Mission Team 2008

The Project Crossroads team had another successful year in service. Each year a team from Elkton United Methodist Church goes to an area of Virginia that has suffered damage from storms. Our congregation provides financial and prayerful support to the team as they go and repair homes and structures which were damaged. The team provides help which really makes a difference in people's lives. All youth and adults are invited to participate. Plan on going this year!

Joy Club

This group is dedicated to bringing happiness into others' lives by visiting those who are home-bound once a month to cheer them up. Those visited are in nursing homes, sick, or confined to their homes due to their physical circumstances. If you would like to join them or know someone who would benefit from their visits, please call Jerri MacLennan or Linda Adams.

EAUS

We are increasing our efforts to be involved in mission in our community by helping to keep the EAUS food pantry stocked. EAUS is the Elkton Area United Services which provides emergency food and financial help to those in need. The supplies are very low and the need is great. To contribute bring staples each Sunday.

Ukraine Orphanage Project

Dianne traveled to Ukraine again this year to work in the Pahinets Early Intervention Center in Rivne. She coordinated activities for the parents of children with disabilities ages birth to 3 years of age.
The Student Occupational Therapy Association (SOTA) at JMU made developmental bags for the parents. These are bags that highlight a specific age and suggested activities for that age. While many materials have been donated, additional materials will need to be purchased. In addition, Dianne took feeding suplies purchased with our donations. These children are very much in need of our help. All of the money donated goes directly to the children. Dianne presented a program of her trip at Homecoming on September 21.

Childrens Friendship Project of Northern Ireland(CFPNI)

CFPNI The Children's Friendship Project for Northern Ireland, the all-volunteer peace and reconciliation program which our church has been a part of since 1993, and which has been perating since 1987, will officially end its program October, 2008. This is due to the great progress that has been made toward true peace and reconciliation in that country due in large part to programs like CFPNI. There will be a party in Northern Ireland in October to celebrate these accomplishments. Attending are Charlotte and David Reynolds (who still serves on the CFPNI Board of Directors) and Sharon Gasser who hosted five summers and have served as area coordinators.

Wednesday Walkers

Wednesday Walkers is a ministry to at-risk children in our community. Adult mentors work on a one-to-one basis with these children once a week on Wednesdays from 3:15 PM to 4:30 PM. This one-on-one attention gives the child an extra boost that he might not get otherwise. We always need more tutors for the next school year. The only requirement is time and a willingness to befriend a child. The rewards are great.

Living Waters

During the school year on Monday afternoons several people from the congregation pass out bottles of water to the parents and relatives who come to our parking lot to pick up their kids after school. It's a way for us to serve those closest to us in the community.

Rebuilding Together

Members of Elkton United Methodist Church participate in the county-wide project of Rebuilding Together. Persons in need of assistance with maintaining their home apply with the organization. The families receiving this assistance are very appreciative and it is a chance for the workers to give back to the community out of the blessings they have received in their own lives. Back to top

Boy Scouts of America

Two scout units meet at our church. Cub Scout Pack 181, and Boy Scout Troup 46. Please call the church at (540)298-8348 for more information.
Pack 181 sent the following Thank You note to the church: "Pastor Dave Reynolds, We wanted to thank you for sponsoring Pack 181 and for allowing us to use the church for all our "extra" functions. We sincerely appreciate all you and your church body do to help make scouting a success."
