The people of Elkton United Methodist Church

Church

This we Believe

Jesus

"You are My beloved Son; in You I am well pleased." Luke 3 : 22

We believe that Jesus is the full and complete revealing of the nature of God. We believe that he lived on earth, was crucified and rose again in His body, overcoming death. He is alive and in trusting and following Him, there is salvation and fullness of life.  He lives in all through the Holy Spirit, only waiting to be recognized. Elkton United Methodist Church (UMC) is a church centered on loving the person of Jesus and making Him known to the world.

the Word

The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life. John 6: 63

The words that Jesus spoke and the way he lived and died are the keys to life. At Elkton UMC we believe that in the Bible God has shown us all that we need to live a full and complete life. Our vision is to see people understanding what Christ says and living this life with Him.

worship

You have shown me the path to life and you make me glad by being near to me.

Sitting at your right side, I will always be joyful.  Psalm 16:11

We were all made to live with God and we want to live lives that show what God has done for us. When we are together at Elkton UMC we worship God with songs, prayer, praise and preaching that tell about the goodness and hope we have in Jesus and make Him the focus of our lives.

the Holy Spirit

And when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will be able to be my witnesses ... even to the ends of the world. Acts 1:8

God still works in our lives today. The Holy Spirit gives to all the power to live for God and become more like Christ. At Elkton UMC our vision is that with God's Spirit working in and through us, the world, and our surrounding community can start to look more like the Kingdom of God.  We want to impact the world with the message of God's love and see lives radically changed.

community

If you love each other, everyone will know that you are my disciples. John 13:35

We are a group of people who show each other respect, dignity, value and worth by loving each other in the same way that Jesus loves us. We are committed to seeing each other reach the full potential that God has placed in us. Elkton UMC is a group where people belong.

prayer

pray all the time; thank God no matter what happens. This is the way God wants you who belong to Christ Jesus to live. 1Thessalonians 5:17-18

We know that we relate to God through prayer. We are a church that believes not only that prayer is important, but it is powerful, and that change is effected in this world when our hearts are open to God. We are people who pray.

outlook

My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life. John 10:10

God loves all God's children and we want to take this hope message to our neighborhoods, communities, families, workplaces and into the world. We show compassion and love to all, because God does.

unity

I have honored my followers in the same way that you honored me, in order that they may be one with each other, just as we are one.John 17:22

We are a part of the global church that is made up of believers worldwide. We seek not to judge other expressions of the church but to work and pray for the church worldwide so that it fulfills the job that it was established to do. We believe that Jesus is the head of the Church.
