ELIZABETH MEMORIAL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

HILLTOP RINGERS
HANDBELL CHOIR

The Hilltop Ringers, the Elizabeth Memorial United Methodist Church English Handbell Choir, under the direction of Edward Isaac, provides music for the worship service on a monthly basis.

The Hilltop Ringers handbell has rehearsal nights at7 p.m. Thursday nights. They will rehearse in the parlor.

Now is a great time for anyone who would like to join the choir to come out and get in on the new music, old music and the holiday music. There are openings for at least three-five ringers, and if enough were interested another choir could be started.

Everyone out there is welcome to come on out and join the fun. Ringing is like eating peanuts: once you start you have trouble stopping. So come on out and see for yourself.

Brief History of the Hilltop Ringers

It all began in the fall of 1995 with an interested group playing Bell Plates. After working for a short time, playing for a few services, some of the ringers went during the advent season to hear some handbell choirs perform. They returned and were quite interested in checking on the logistics of purchasing handbells for our church. During the spring 1996, after talking to two handbell manufactures representatives, an Adopt-a-Bell program was developed. This program was (and continues to be) designed so memorial and honorary gifts can be given towards the purchase of handbells, choir chimes and other need equipment. A plaque is being installed in the church.

Thanks to the generosity of the church members and friends, memorial funds and supporters of the Hilltop Ringers’ fund-raising events, the Bell Choir purchased a three-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells in the fall of 1996. They were delivered in the spring of 1997 and were played in church shortly there after. In the spring of 1998 we purchased a three-octave set of Malmark choir chimes. The choir chimes added new sound to the handbell choir. During the fall of 2000 we were able, with the help of church memorial funds, to purchase a fourth octave of Schulmerich Handbells.

New ringers are always welcome. Simply come to a rehearsal, talk to a current ringer, contact the church office, or director Ed Isaac.
