Outreach Ministries

"For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.' Then the righteous will answer him, 'Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?' The King will reply, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.'" (Matthew 25:35-40)

The congregation of Elizabeth Memorial is committed to serving God by reaching out to those in need. We accomplish this through the various giving ministries of our church and the programs which we support. These include:

SOCIAL CONCERNS COMMITTEE - This committee coordinates programs and offerings such as a monthly collection of items needed by the Covenant House in Charleston on the 2nd Sunday of each month; food donations for the Oakwood Terrace Food Pantry in Charleston on the 3rd Sunday of each month; and a 2 cents a Meal Offering for Manna Meal in Charleston on the 4th Sunday of each month. In addition, they plan special collections such as collection of items for UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) kits for those in need locally and world wide; toiletries and other items for the Veterans Home in Barboursville and the Charleston Men's Shelter; a "drive in and drop off" collection day for Heart and Hand; and collection of tools for Habitat for Humanity.

ADOPT-A-FAMILY - Each December our church family sponsors one or more families for the Covenant House Adopt-a-Family program. Items requested by needy families who do not receive assistance for any other organization are placed on a Christmas tree at the church and members select gift tags with items to purchase for these families.

REBUILDING CHARLESTON TOGETHER - Formally Christmas in April, this yearly spring work project helps area residents who cannot afford home repairs. This past April, our crew worked at the Sojourner's Shelter in Charleston painting rooms, and plans to return in the fall to complete rooms they were unable to get to the one day they were there. Our church will be working with the Sojourner's Shelter instead of RCT this year.

CHAUFFEURS FOR CHRIST - If you need a ride to a local destination (doctor's appointment, airport, etc.), volunteers in this ministry will give you a lift.

PRAYER CHAINS - We believe that through prayer all things are possible. Elizabeth Memorial currently offers two ways for its members to be involved in prayer for one another: telephone and e-mail. If you have a prayer request, please fill out the form located on our "Contact Us" site.

VOLUNTEERS IN MISSION - Over the years, thousands have had life-changing experiences through work teams sponsored by the West Virginia United Methodist Church via Volunteers in Mission. Work teams across the nation and world-wide are offered each year. Elizabeth Memorial has had many members over the years participate in these work ministries.

Check our church newsletter each month for the various ministry projects offered and how you can help.
