The HILLTOP RINGERS HANDBELL CHOIR, under the direction of Edward Isaac, provides music for the Traditional Service of Worship on a monthly basis. They rehearse Thursday nights at 7:00 p.m. Now is a great time for anyone who would like to join the choir to come out and join the fun. There are openings for at least 3-5 ringers. Everyone is welcome to come join a rehearsal. You might find that handbell ringing is like eating peanuts - once you start you have trouble stopping! Some come on out and see for yourself.
Brief History of the Hilltop Ringers
It all began in the fall of 1995 with an interested group playing Bell Plates. After working for a short time, playing for a few services, some of the ringers went during the Advent season to hear other handbell choirs perform. They returned and were quite interested in checking on the logistics of purchasing handbells for our church. During the spring 1996, after talking to two handbell manufacturers' representatives, an Adopt-a-Bell program was developed. This program was (and continues to be) designed so memorial and honorary gifts can be given towards the purchase of handbells, choir chimes and other needed equipment.
Thanks to the generosity of the church members and friends, memorial funds and supporters of the Hilltop Ringers' fund-raising events, the Handbell Choir purchased a three-octave set of Schulmerich Handbells in the fall of 1996. They were delivered in the spring of 1997 and were played in church for the first time shortly thereafter. In the spring of 1998 we purchased a three-octave set of Malmark choir chimes. The choir chimes added a new sound to the handbell choir. During the fall of 2000 we were able, with the help of church memorial funds, to purchase a fourth octave of Schulmerich Handbells.
