Community Service Projects

The youth of Elizabeth Memorial are dedicated to serving the community in which they live. During the course of the school year, the youth are involved in a number of projects that serve the church, South Hills, and the world.

Each school year, the Middle School and Senior High youth host two parties for the younger children of Elizabeth Memorial. In October they invite the children to join them for some Halloween fun at the annual Halloween Party. In the Spring they host the Easter Egg Hunt and Party for infants-5th grade children.

At Christmas the youth always sponsor one of the larger gifts on the church's Adopt-a-Family Tree for Covenant House. They choose a larger, more expensive gift and use money raised during their fundraisers to purchase this gift. This past year they purchased a crib and mattress for a newborn.

In an effort to make our church more "green", the youth implemented a recycling program at the church. Using funds raised from their fall hot dog sale, the youth purchased recycling bins to place throughout the church, and each week they take on the task of collecting the paper, plastic, and aluminum that have been placed in these bins throughout the week for pick up by the City of Charleston.

Our Senior High youth Sunday School class has been encouraging congregation members to collect and bring their pop tabs to the church for donation to the local Ronald McDonald House.

In June 2009, a team of 14 youth and three adults are planning to travel to Pendleton County, WV, to work with the local Habitat for Humanity. For a week the crew will share the love of our Lord Jesus Christ through home building, home renovating, and other jobs important to the people of the community.
