ChildServ To Honor The Elgin District

Award Ceremony November 11th in Lake Bluff

Bless These Gifts...On November 11th, 2009, ChildServ will bestow on The Elgin District of the Northern Illinois Conference its Faith Community Award for 2009, which is given annually to recognize the special contributions of ChildServ’s faith community partners in mission and in social justice. The award will be presented to District Superintendent, The Reverend Oscar Carrasco, by ChildServ’s President and CEO, James C. Jones, as part of a celebration recognizing ChildServ’s 115 years of ministry to needy and vulnerable children and their families.

Founded by Methodist Deaconesses in 1894, the ministry that would become ChildServ operated in Lake Bluff for seven decades as an orphanage serving as many as 100 children. Since then and with the continued support of countless Elgin District volunteers, donors and child advocates, among others, ChildServ has become an innovative, community-based agency serving more than 3,500 children and their families each year in Cook, Du Page and Lake Counties.

The Vliet MuseumThe celebration will be held at Lake Bluff’s Vliet Museum, which maintains an extraordinary collection that illustrates the importance of faith, community and service in the successful growth and development of this ministry. Actors in period costumes, displays and more will help recount ChildServ’s past and present and will set the stage for a look at ChildServ’s future.

The event is open to the public, but ChildServ President and CEO Jim Jones would like to extend a special note of invitation, especially to the people of The Elgin District who have helped shape, or who have benefited from, this ministry over the years, including: adoptive and foster parents, adopted and foster children, volunteers, donors, staff, Board members, service partners, sponsors and more. Come, celebrate with us! Help us honor the faith, mission and service of the people and congregations of The Elgin District.
