Northern Illinois Conference of the United Methodist Church

Volunteer in Missions: Chua

Dear Partners in Ministry,
At the 2008 Northern Illinois Annual Conference, Bishop Carlos Poma of the Iglesia Metodista Evangelica de Bolivia (IEMB), and NIC Bishop Hee-Soo Jung endorsed a partnership between the two conferences for the quadrennial period 2008-2012. This partnership includes:
  • Leadership, training and exchange of leadership.
  • Volunteer in Mission teams will help build and restore facilities for the IEMB and communities.
  • Medical teams will help reengage the health ministries of the IEMB.
  • Social justice issues to support the IEMB and its extraordinary membership which is 70% indigenous.
  • February 3-12, 2009, the first NIC Volunteer in Missions team will travel to Chua to begin the initial construction of a new sanctuary. Headed by Rev. Orlando Moller, Rev. David Kaller and Josephine Kaller, the team will lay the foundation for the structure. The estimated cost from start to finish is projected to be $25,000.00. The labor of construction will be provided by local Amyra Methodists and NIC VIM teams. It is hoped that the sanctuary will be completed in four visits. I encourage you to review the brochure for this conference supported VIM trip posted on the website www.elgindistrict.com.
As we enter this time of Thanksgiving and the anticipation of the celebration of the birth of Christ in December, I would like to prayerfully ask that each congregation in the Elgin District consider a voluntary contribution towards construction materials for the sanctuary at Chua. The February VIM team is in need of financial support. Gifts may be sent to the Elgin-Aurora Regional office earmarked CHUA VIM TEAM.
Your prayerful consideration of mission and ministry to our Methodist friends in Bolivia will be greatly appreciated.
    Sincerely in Christ,
    Rev. Oscar N. Carrasco
    Elgin District Superintendent
