The Happy Heartwarmers started in January, 1997 in the home of Dorothy Wesely of Elmhurst. The ladies from Faith have been physically and spiritually warming hearts and bodies ever since. Each afghan has a label sewn on the corner that reads "God Is Love - 1 John 4:16." When possible, we include a New Testament with a ribbon marking the page where John 4:16 is located.

There were about fifteen ladies when the group started but a number have either moved or passed away. We currently have about ten that come regularly including a few that are not church members. We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 1:00 PM and then again at 7:00 PM.

To date, we have gathered 1,048 afghans/lap robes, 631 baby afghans, 232 hats, plus scarves, mittens, bibs, slippers and even bandages for soldiers. Our ministry was started not only to bless others less fortunate but to bless Dorothy as her health prevents her from going out much. Our afghans have gone to veterans hospitals, Navajo missions in New Mexico, local ministries such as ChildServ, and "Sharing Connections" in Downers Grove and more.
