Prayer Shawl Ministries
Antioch United Methodist Church
When the call came in December, 2008 for 100 prayer shawls for NIU, members and friends of Antioch UMC pulled out their needles, hooks, and yarn to craft 19 prayer shawls that were sent to NIU for their Remembrance Day, February 14, 2009. Pastor Barbara Good included a Blessing Ceremony for the shawls in worship, Sunday morning, January 25, before they were sent to NIU, along with Blessing the Hands of the crafters.
Since we had such a good response, we now have an emerging Prayer Shawl Ministry here at Antioch UMC. We have a group that meets during coffee hour, between our two church services, along with another group that meets during the week. We are willing to teach and help those who are interested. We also have a quilter in our group.
We are excited to see where God leads us in this new ministry, both in our church and our community. Prayers and caring have a very profound effect on those who are hurting, and we want to offer God's love to hurting people through our prayer shawls.
