SUNDAY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

The Education Committee spent much time exploring and trying out Sunday school curriculums. We have decided to go with Grow Proclaim Serve! for the 3 year olds - 5th grade, and Faith in Motion for 6th & 7th graders. They are both available through Cokesbury. Grow Proclaim Serve! is very similar to the Rock Solid we used previously. The Education Committee feels these are the curriculums that best suit the needs of our Sunday school. Please see Heidi Gran with any questions. I would like to thank the teachers for their patience, flexibility and input while we were choosing the curriculum.

MOTHER'S DAY SERVICE

The 6th - 12th graders will have the opportunity to plan a youth-led service for Mother’s Day. They will meet during Sunday school beginning April 14th to start planning. The details are still being worked out, so if you are a youth and are interested, please keep your eyes open for details. For those of you on the shy side; please keep in mind that you can be a part of the planning process and not have to actually get up in front of the whole church! We need everyone’s creativity!

SUNDAY SCHOOL PICNIC

The Education Committee is already planning Children's Day and the Sunday School Picnic! These will occur on June 9th. We are really excited, we have some really fantastic ideas. So save the date, and keep an eye out for the picnic sign up sheet.

Sunday School Teachers

We are always on the look out for new Sunday School volunteers! If you are interested in helping out, please call or e-mail Heidi Gran 783-8465, or hjgran68@gmail.com.

SUNDAY SCHOOL MISSIONS

We have been very busy this year helping others; Our donations from our Christmas craft fair and Pretzel Sunday go to our missions fund. This year we have; held a pet food drive for the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, donated to Nora Walkley’s Mission of Peace trip, we will help the youth group on Sub Sunday, we will help make and collect the Love Kits for the homeless shelter, the 4th & 5th grade class is collecting for Heifer International, and the Confirmation class will do a mission at the Homeless shelter. Whew! We have been busy, we deserve a pat on the back! Thank you so much for your support of Sunday school missions!

Sunday School

The children and youth of our church are called to know and share God's Unconditional Love.

Children playing in the Infant room

We teach the power of God's Love in many ways, through, time in Sunday School class, the sanctuary and music. In class, youth participate a variety of activities such as reading the Bible, hands on activities and discussions. During sanctuary time, youth are exposed to the traditions of the worship service. The 15 Minutes of Music teaches the fun-to-sing children Bible songs to the pre-school through 4th graders. Our older youth participate in a Pop And Praise Music Group twice a month, where they sing contemporary, up beat religious music. Through these many activities we hope to reach each of our youth and let them know how special they are and how much God Loves them!

Sunday School students doing arts and crafts

Our Sunday School classes meet 9:30 to 10:30, Sunday mornings, at the same time as the church service. The 12 Sunday School classes, a class for each from age three through Senior High (grades 9th through 12th are combined), are staffed throughout the school year with a total of 90 church volunteers, most part - time so they too have time in the sanctuary. Having many different teachers in the classroom provides our youth to learn from a variety of church members, each with their own gifts to give.

Sunday School students making advent wreaths

Special Sunday School events are held throughout the year to emphasize a holiday or church event, such as: Bible Sunday for second graders, Advent Wreath making, Advent Rock program, Pretzel Sunday, 6th Grade Communion Day, 8th grade Confirmation, The Holy Week Program and Children's Day.

Through our many mission projects we teach our youth they can, and do make a difference locally and in our world! Our local mission projects continue to be a big part of our Sunday School mission program.

A child can start Sunday School anytime throughout the year, no registration is needed. Being a community church new children often know other children in their Sunday School class through sports, school etc. This makes the transition easier. If desired we have siblings together in a class until they want to go to their own Sunday School class. We want Sunday School to be an enjoyable place for our children and youth.
