STAFF-PARISH RELATIONS MINISTRY

 Primary Task

To support the pastor and other staff so that these people can work effectively to manage and lead the ministry of the church for witness and service.

Responsibilities of the Committee

1.    To understand the feelings and hopes within the congregation with regard to pastoral leadership.
2.    To work with the District Superintendent and/or the Bishop in an advisory capacity in matters pertaining to clergy leadership.
3.    To review the Senior Pastor’s job description as outlined in the Discipline.
4.    To counsel with the Pastor about priorities for the use of his/her gifts and time.
5.    To communicate the pastor’s goals and priorities to the congregation.
6.    To create written job descriptions for all staff other than the Senior Pastor.
7.    To make annual recommendations for staff compensation and benefits.
8.    To review parsonage needs with the pastor (and spouse) and Trustees to ensure proper maintenance.
9.    To work with the pastor to create policies for all staff not under Episcopal appointment.
10.    To provide regular feedback to the Pastor and other staff members.
11.    To seek, interview and recommend to the Charge Conference lay preachers and qualified candidates for ordained ministry.
12.    To be accountable to the Charge Conference through the Church Council.

Responsibilities of the Chairperson

1.    To be available to the pastor for counsel, understanding and support.
2.    To consult with the pastor regarding the work of staff members.
3.    To guide the work of the committee through the year, scheduling and convening the meetings, and planning the agendas.
4.    To ensure that the congregation and pastor are informed about the work of the committee.
5.    To participate fully in the Church Council.
6.    To be accountable to the Charge Conference through the Church Council.
7.    To submit annual budget requests to the Finance Committee.
8.    To submit an annual report of the committee’s work.
