LAY LEADER
Primary Task
To provide spiritual leadership and practical guidance in developing, supporting and maintaining the mission and ministry of the church.
Responsibilities of the Lay Leader
1. To serve as the primary lay representative of the congregation.
2. To advise the Church Council on opportunities for ministry in the local community and beyond.
3. To meet regularly with the Pastor to discuss the state of the church.
4. To work cooperatively with the Pastor and other church leaders to develop and implement the vision of
the congregation.
5. To help the congregation keep focused on the big picture.
6. To help the congregation grow in discipleship.
7. To help create a supportive and nurturing community in which both children and adults can grow in
faithfulness, serving God
and caring for one another.
8. To assist the pastor(s) in Baptism, Communion, and the Reception of New Members.
9. To serve on the Committee on Lay Leadership, the Finance Committee, the Church Council, and the
Charge Conference.
10. To submit an annual report.
LAY LEADERSHIP COMMITTEE
Primary Task
To direct the process for discovering, inviting, nominating, and supporting people for leadership within the congregation.
Responsibilities
1. To become familiar with as many persons within the congregation as possible, and to inventory their
gifts, skills, interests, knowledge, and commitment.
2. To involve persons of various ages (including youth, young adults and older adults) and life situations
(married, single, retired, etc.).
3. To work with the pastor and other congregational leaders to develop job descriptions for each position.
4. To make a special effort to help new people move into the life of the church. To provide training
resources and opportunities.
5. To present a slate of officers and committee members to the Church Council and Charge Conference.
Responsibilities of the Chairperson (the Pastor)
1. To set the agenda and guide the meetings.
2. To report the nominations to the Church Council and Charge Conference.
3. To obtain resources for job descriptions and training, and to support the church leaders in their roles.
