Instructions
for Web Submissions

How to Submit
1. Text
E-mail as an unformatted Word document, or
even better, a simple text file such as Notepad
(as Word adds a lot of extra code when converted
to html code). Notepad is free for Microsoft
Office users (start, all programs, accessories,
notepad). Again, please make sure it is unformatted,
including no indentations, font color changes,
etc., unless bold, capitalization, or other
markups are necessary. Include the page on
which it is to appear, clearly marked.
For example: Activities page text goes here,
phone number, etc.
It should already be spell checked, proofed
for typographical errors, and edited if possible.
I will put it in just how I receive it unless
I happen to catch things before.
2. Images
I can incorporate bitmap, jpeg, gif, png,
tiff, and just about any other file type of
files (except some psd files) into the website.
Please provide them in jpeg if possible as
these are compressed. Jpegs will download
faster for those with only dial up service
who may visit our site since we already have
some flash up there.
Crop and size the pictures to no less than
150x150 and no greater than 200x200 pixels
or they won't show up well on the web. Again,
specify on which pages you would like them
and any accompanying text (such as a title
or caption for the image). If you are intending
to submit a number of pictures for a specific
event, please make sure all pictures are of
the same file type and the same size. I can
then create a slideshow of the images so it
takes up less space on the page itself.
These may not be able to be placed in a slideshow
on the day I normally work on them, especially
if there are a lot of changes, but they will
be eventually that month, assuming it doesn't
become a huge project. Given the limited amount
of time to work on the other changes on the
website, please limit the pictures per each
event to 15.
Please consider getting permission to put
pictures of people from church events on the
web. If the are submitted to me, I am assuming
you have that permission.
3. Text or images with hyperlinks
These should have the entire link specified,
so add the "http://" before the specific address,
to ensure that they will function properly
on upload. These should be tested before sending
them to me. Send everything as e-mail attachments
to the appropriate Committee
Chairperson.
Depending on how many changes you would like
and the types of changes requested, it could
prove to be very time intensive for me to
both collect all requests, sort them out and
compile them into a list, and then actually
make the changes to the code. Specifically,
sending a lot of e-mails with small changes
could prove to be very time intensive.
4. PDFs
Convert to jpeg if possible. If it was a word
document and you would like to maintain it's
appearance and have it look on the web like
it does on your computer, then convert it
to pdf (portable document file) using Adobe
or some other software.
5. Video
Video should be fully prepared for the web.
This includes editing to include the sections
you want and recombining the clips into full
"movies", however short, but please no longer
than five minutes; we probably have a gb transfer
rate limit with the hosting we have right
now and any more than that could easily put
us over the limit. These should then be converted
to MPEG format, 2, 3, or 4 for compression
or at most, wmv (wave media video) files.
If you would like me to do this, I can, but
cannot do it without charging a fee due to
the time intensive nature of these types of
projects. Please contact me regarding this
or other video/dvd projects regarding the
details.
6. Deadlines for Updates
I will update the first Friday of the month,
so will need the to me by very early that
day. For each person who makes a request,
it would be very helpful if you could please
