Mission Today Unit Goals
Complete a minimum of ten of the following criteria
with at least five from each section. The criteria are to be fulfilled each
year. Submit your unit’s completed list
to your district president by December 15. Check off items as your unit completes them.
Section A: Complete
at least five of these criteria:

Plan a joint unit meeting with a unit of a different racial/ethnic
background and use programs from the Program
Book.
·
Develop bi-racial/cultural or multi-racial/cultural Koinonia groups
·
Enable your local church through its Administrative Board, Council on
Ministries, etc., to become involved in the implementation of the Charter by:
§
Encouraging a joint
§
Encouraging pulpit exchanges.
§
Sharing joint worship services on special occasions.
§
Encouraging support for equal employment practices in the church and
community.
§
Encouraging the church to sponsor a refugee family.
§
Helping to promote the Quadrennial Emphasis on the
Section
B: Complete at least five of
these criteria:
o
At least one member of the unit (other than a conference or district
officer) will attend the conference or district School of Christian Mission. District scholarships are available; contact
your district president.
o
At least two members of the unit (other than a conference or district
officer) will attend the district or conference annual meeting.
o
At least one member of the unit will join the United Methodist Women’s Action
Network to receive, respond, and report on legislative information. To join, contact the Women's Division

o
Unit members shall write to five persons listed in the Prayer Calendar
(Service
Center #3490, $8.50) at least twice a year.
o
The unit will participate in the Campaign for Children (Service
Center Campaign for
Children-UMW, Phase III #3223, $10.00) in at least two ways. Suggestions:

Help sponsor a church or community program related to needs of children
and youth.
·
Sponsor a Children's Sabbath, promoted by the Children's Defense Fund, by
using The National Observance of Children's
Sabbaths Handbook -Repairers of the Breach (Service Center # 3224,
$6.00).
·
Get involved with children in mentoring, tutoring, and big sister
programs.
·
Write, e-mail, or call Congressional representatives and/or others in
government regarding children's issues.
·
Visit local schools.
·
Attend a school board meeting.
·
Learn how public schools are funded.
o
The unit will be a Five Star Unit by contributing to all five channels of
Undesignated
Mission Giving.
o
The unit will select a project from the Women's
Division's Material Resources for
Mission Catalog (Service Center #2579,
$4.50) and will contribute the needed materials to the mission project.
o
Each unit, circle, or subgroup will use a Response magazine (Service Center, $12/year) article
to tell the mission story at each meeting.
New World Outlook magazine (Service Center, $15/year) provides
another good way to tell the mission story. A joint subscription of Response and New World
Outlook is $25/year.
o
The unit will use two programs from the Program Book for United Methodist Women each year.
o
The unit will have at least two persons from the unit, circle, or
subgroup complete one plan from the Reading Program (Service
Center #5547, free except for shipping) and report on one of the
books read. Encourage all members to
complete Plan One; create interest with a book review program.
o
The unit will invite a district or conference officer (other than one who
is a member of the unit) to one of the unit meetings during the year.
o
The unit will observe United Methodist Women’s Sunday on the first Sunday
after Easter or another date selected by the unit.
