In 1914 the women at Duff Street organized in the West Virginia branch of the Women's Missionary Association. The first meeting of the Otterbein Sisters convened on February 5, 1915. At that time the church was the United Brethren in Christ. The local interest was known as the Ladies Aid. Historical
The organization pledged $1000.00 on April 15, 1915 toward the new church. It would be paid in five years and if not paid in full at the end of that time, it would be extended. They also sold bricks for the new church for 25 cents a brick.
In 1918 the name was changed to Women's Missionary Society. The first record of a Mother Daughter Banquet was the May meeting in 1932. In 1942 some of the ladies met each week at the church to quilt.
Another project of the Society was the support of the Quincy Orphanage. They would send items such as clothing, sheets, washcloths, soap and toys for the little ones. There always seemed to be a big box of articles sent to the Orphanage during the Christmas holidays.
It is believed that the Otterbein Sisters and the Women's Missionary Society merged together and changed their name to Women's Society of World Service about 1953 when the church was Evangelical United Brethren. In 1972 the organization's name was changed to United Methodist Women.
Some programs and events that have taken place are mission studies, the Celebration of Talents, sponsor of appliances, have helped purchase items for flood buckets, donated items and raised money for the Celebration of Mission Event, help serve meals at the Clarksburg Mission, organized the grief committee to prepare and serve meals for those who have a death in their family.
On Sunday, October 18, 1987, members for 50 years or longer were recognized.
