Visit from Chuck, Jr.

Dr. Chuck & Pearl's son, Chuck Jr., recently traveled to Nigeria to visit his parents. He was born in Bambur, Nigeria and lived there until he was 12 yrs. old so this was a trip to his birthplace. His parents had returned to the United States in 1980.

Dr. Chuck and Pearl traveled to Yola to meet Chuck, Jr.'s plane, but the plane was delayed. After two days of not knowing why he did not come or when he would arrive, they went back home. Pearl wrote, “This is one time when knowing that God sees where they are and knows what has happened to them has to be where we put our confidence. It does no good to worry. In fact, the Bible tells us this is a sin.”

Friends brought Chuck, Jr. from Yola to Zing to visit his parents. Sadly, one of his childhood friends, Polycarp, who was looking forward to seeing him, died from typhoid fever just a few days before Chuck, Jr. arrived.

Pearl describes the visit, “I was feeling kind of blue and sad on Tuesday because of Polycarp. Later a.m. I hear a car pulling up and horn toot and there was our son, Chuck. Too good to be true, but it was. Shortly after I served tea and cake. Several people, who had known him when he was a child in Nigeria, came to see him. Saratu came to visit. She was so excited. She hugged and hugged Chuck. Immediately she started telling all kinds of stories of the tricks Chuck would do when he was little. I made a quick meal of corn bread, omelet, and a can of Spam older Chuck had been requesting. I promised him I’d make it if son Chuck came. Of course, Chuck, Sr. had to rush off after eating to do a C-Section. Young Chuck had to leave before he got back. “

Chuck, Pearl and Chuck, Jr. need our support and our prayers for their safety and health. They are part of our church family making a difference and helping fulfil “The Great Commission.
