Mission News reported by Carolyn Green, CGreenhome@aol.com Mission OutReach

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always to the very end of the age."                                                                                          Matthew 28:19-20 NIV

Duff Street United Methodist Church supports many local, state, national and world Mission Projects. The people of Duff Street offer their prayers, time and money to help make a difference. Terry Moore and Rev. Amy Shanholtzer delivered 125 Health Kits and personal care items to the American Red Cross on September 6th for Hurricane Katrina evacuees housed at Camp Dawson. Thank you to everyone who donated items to make this possible in such a short time.

The Arnett Missionary Family

Dr. Charles Arnett (Chuck) and his wife, Pearl, arrived home on March 1, 2004. They will be visiting their supporting churches during the next few weeks. They latest news is they are not retiring and plan to return to Nigeria with the General Board of Global Ministries in February 2005 to work with a specific focus on HIV/AIDS. They had been in Nigeria as Medical Missionaries since September 6, 2000. They had previously served in Nigeria from 1967 to 1980. "Since I was a small boy, I knew God was calling me to be a medical missionary in Africa," Dr. Arnett said. There are several entires from "Pearl's Journal", as well as pictures, about their work in Nigeria.

Duff Street Food Pantry - Open Each Tuesday 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Since opening on January 20, 2004, the Food Pantry has filled food orders for 22 families, which includes 42 adults and 30 children. This has been possible by the generosity of those who bring food items to the wishing well, donate money to the food pantry, and those who volunteer their time to serve a Tuesday each month. Donations are received from several sources.

During the month of March, the youth collected food during their 30 hr. famine, Susan Jabbour's class collected food, and Adamston Grade School sponsored a concert with admission being cans of food. One child has brought each week during Lent some of her favorite foods for a hungry child. Her donation is so very special as it is food that a child likes. Bridgeport UM Church and Christ UM Church also are supporting the Food Pantry. Each donation, large and small, enables us to decrease hunger in our community.

The Duff Street Food Pantry is the recipient of this year's food drive at "Curves for Women" in Bridgeport. New and current members were asked to bring bags of groceries. Lisa Petree, owner, said, "I believe it is necessary to give back to the community and this is one way I can, but it is actually the members who did it. We have collected 1913 pounds of food and should have a ton of food by the end of the month." The food was delivered to the Food Pantry on Saturday, April 3rd and many youth and adults were there to help carry the food, sort and stock the shelves.

The annual Postal Workers Food Drive is on Saturday, May 8th and will be another opportunity to serve as each Food Pantry needs to have volunteers to help sort the food.

Referrals are received from Criss Cross Information and Referral, a vital community agency that helps many members of our community. If you are aware of someone who is not able to stretch their budget to provide enough food for their family, contact the pastor, Amy Shanholtzer at 624-7951, or Carolyn Green at 622-2965.
