"100 + Years of Ministry"
We look back at our history as we continue our mission, "To Make Jesus Christ Real and Relevant By Sharing His Grace and Love Where We Live, Work and Play."
On October 10, 2004, Duff Street celebrated one hundred years of ministry and service in Clarksburg. On November 8, 1904, a group of thirteen persons held a meeting for the purpose o organizing a class of The United Brethren in Christ. At that time a decision was made to build a church, the first one in Stealey. On July 9, 1905, only eight months after the meeting of those thirteen interested persons, the little white Church on the corner of Duff and Baker were dedicated.
The Church served the people of the community for about ten years. In those ten years the congregation grew so rapidly that a need for a new and larger structure was felt. Our present building was dedicated May 16, 1916. The church's membership was 272.
Thirty years later, in 1946 the church membership had grown to 613. That was also the year of the church merger and we became the Duff Street Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Through the years our church as realized the importance of Christian education in the life of it's members and has made changes in its facilities to ensure this ministry. In the middle 50's, the old parsonage was converted into an educational building. During the early 60's, the Gregor property was purchased and used for additional educational space.
In 1968 the EUB Church united with The Methodist Church and we became the Duff Street United Methodist Church. The congregation's dream of a new educational building was realized in October 1977. A Multi-Ministries Building was then built and is used for various activities in the neighborhood.
We have much to be thankful for here at Duff Street. Mindful of the past and accepting the challenge of the future, our vision is to be - "A Community of Hope offering hope in our community and beyond"
