Pastor Carl W. Clark
Pastor Carl was appointed Pastor of Driftwood UMC in June 2003. Prior to entering pastoral ministry Carl considered the more than thirty-five years he worked as a public health professional to be his ministry.
During that time he helped protect the environment and developed or assisted in the development of numerous medical and dental clinics in multiple locales throughout Texas which provided medical care to the medically underserved and the
medically indigent citizens of Texas.Carl’s public health career encompassed positions with the Amarillo Bi-City County Health Department, City of Port Arthur Health Department, Tarrant County Health Department, and the Texas Department of Health.
Carl retired from the Texas Department of Health in August 2003. He attended under graduate school at McMurry College (now McMurry University), which he attended on a football scholarship, and later graduated from
West Texas State University (now West Texas A&M University). He next attended graduate school at the University of Texas, School of Public Health, Houston, Texas, and holds the following degrees:
B.S. (Bachelor of Science) and M.P.H. (Master of Public Health). As a Candidate for Ordained Minister, Pastor Carl is licensed by the Southwest Texas Conference UMC.
He currently attends COSS Classes offered in conjunction with the Perkins School of Theology, Southern Methodist University, in order to complete the educational requirements necessary for Ordination.
Pastor Carl and his wife, Sherry, attended Kyle UMC before he entered the ministry. Sherry also holds B.S. and M.P.H. degrees, and is Director of the WIC Dietetic Internship Program, Texas Department of State Health Services.
Carl and Sherry enjoy music, cooking, camping and hiking, hot air balloon flights, white water rafting, fixed wing gliding, reading, and caring for their two dogs and cat.
Sherry also engages in aerobics and swimming, while Carl enjoys hunting and the occasional round of golf.
