It seems that the earliest Christians were very religiously inclined for they used their homes as the first places of worship. Later they held services in the log school-houses. The present Church was built in 1870 by the Citizens of the neighborhood. Samuel Carter gave an acre of ground on which to build the Church. John Coleman furnished the timber. Horner and Cassidy, managers of the stave mill sawed and planed the lumber. Mr. Joe White planned and constructed this building with the help of others. It was named Doggett Chapel for Bishop Doggett who dedicated it to the M. E. South Church and to be used by all denominations when not in use by the Methodists. Martin Bibb, and Chambers were two of the pioneer preachers. A partical list of the northern Methodist ministers were, Rev. William Wriston, and Rev. Lelsie.
A List of the M. E. South ministers are as follows: Rev. Murray, Rev. Fergate, Rev. Wheatley, Rev. Fallensbee, Rev. Gosling, Rev. L. S. Cunningham, Rev, A. E. O'Dell, Rev. P. E. Thornburg, Rev. B. M. Keith, Rev. A. H. Perkins and Rev. T. J. Hopson.
