Church history: Whether the Methodist Church came to Kenmare after the first settlers, or that it was here to welcome them, is a thing the old timers find hard to determine, but, whether or not, after meeting in various places and settling down for a short time in the Hall over the old P.M. Cole Store, the church building was begun and in the fall of 1901, it opened for worship. The first service was held Easter Sunday, April 22, 1897 in a shack owned by a Mr. Broat. Church membership on August 4, 1898, the time of the first recorded meeting, was eight members. The church was first named "Wesley M.E. Church", then changed to "Rossell Memorial M.E. Church". In 1968, when the Methodist Church and the E.U.B. churches joined, the local church became known as the United Methodist Church of Kenmare."
