A little history of the Donnybrook
United Methodist Church....
The Donnybrook UMC was formed in 1902, and the church building was completed a little later with an addition built on the west side in 1920. It was first called the Methodist-Episcopal Church, in 1939 it was the Methodist Church, and then in 1968 The United Methodist Church. In the early years the church was served by a resident pastor who also served a church in Carpio. During the 1930's the Carpio church closed and a pastor who was serving Kenmare and Norma came here. During the late 30's or early 40's the Norma Church closed and the Kenmare pastor served Bowbells and Donnybrook. This three church combination lasted until 1968 when Donnybrook was placed in a charge with Maxbass and Lansford. After our 75th anniversary celebration in 1977 the church stayed in the parish with Lansford and Maxbass until 1980. During the following two years we were served by various pastors from Minot but when Kenmare became inactive for a period we were put into a parish with Coteau and Bowbells until 1982. The Des Lacs Valley Parish was established in 1982 with four churches served by two pastors. This parish of four churches consisting of Donnybrook, Coteau, Bowbells, and Kenmare lasted until 1984 when Coteau closed. We then became a three church parish served by one pastor, the situation which has lasted until the present time.
