Youth Group
Our regular Youth Group meetings are on the 1
st, 3rd, and 5th Sunday of each month from 4 – 5:30. All youth, grade 6 and up, are invited to take part.30 Hour Famine is here!!!!!!
Calling all youth and you friends. We will be holding the 2
nd annual 30 Hr famine this year, from noon on Friday, Feb 27 to 6 pm Saturday Feb. 28. The 30 hr famine is held every year to raise money for starving children thought out the world. For every $30 raised that can feed a child for a whole month. So get ready to help save children. This year the area we are focusing on is the Amazon. If you have questions or would like to pick up a packet to start raising funds, please see Margaret Krebs, Michelle Stuart, or Diane Mace for more info, or send us and e-mail at dhumcyouthleader@yahoo.comRemember, the youth will be selling greeting cards in the foyer each Sunday to help fund their programs.
Sandwiches, Soup and Spiritual Fruits
Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 25, is traditionally a time of spiritual re-evaluation and renewal. This year, let’s join together and continue the exploration that was started at the worship/meeting that we had on Sunday January 11. Some who were there on that cold and icy morning expressed the desire for us to learn more about who we are and what we are called to do as a church.
If you feel called to be part of this on-going discernment process, plan to join those who will gather during Lent (time and days to be announced) to try to gain a better understanding of the spiritual gifts that are unique to this congregation and how they can best be used.
Bring a sandwich – soup a will be provided.
Mission Report: Ghana!
Although Pastor David has told us repeatedly about his trip to Ghana last summer, there is more of the story to tell! Pastor David invites you to join him for a luncheon with the mission team, at noon on Sunday, February 22nd at Dix Hills UMC, followed by a presentation about the Peki Mission experience. You won't want to miss out on this time of fellowship with your DHUMC friends, of actual Ghanaian dishes (and some American dishes for the less adventurous), and a taste of what God is doing through a coalition of six churches (including ours!) in Ghana. This mission report is for

Connections Sunday:
A special congregational meeting was held on Sunday, January 11 during the worship service. Those who braved the wintry weather found chairs set up in several small circles. The worship service began in the usual manner, but after the scripture reading, Pastor David led the groups through a prayerful process of discernment. Several interesting things came of this meeting:
1)
It was decided that many of our financial issues may be solved in understanding better our identity and purpose as a congregation.2)
Many of our current ministries were lifted up as doing a lot of good.3)
A few new ministries were raised up as possible directions for our future.4)
Several people were inspired to rededicate themselves to work they've been called to do.5)
It was generally agreed that more of these conversations need to take place in the near future.Connections Sunday:

Diner Divas
On February 7, we will be indulging in a chocolate devotional lead by Mary Czeisel. It will be held from 3-6 pm at the Dix Hills UMC. This is a new addition to our event calendar and we hope that it is a great success to continue throughout the years. This event includes a pot luck dinner and everyone is asked to sign up to bring a dish to share. Experience how prayer can be like a box of chocolates -- we all have a different style and approach! This gourmet feast for the soul includes items that invite women to delight in prayer, Scripture reading, and reflection. It's about connecting chocolate to the lavish and knowing the extravagant grace of God. We'll be doing some tasting of different kinds of chocolate and everyone will bring home a chocolate treat. Depending on how the evening goes and how much time we have, a movie may or may not be included.
We hope everyone will invite a friend and come join in the joy of chocolate. We hope all of the events sound fun and interesting! New friends and ideas are always welcome! We hope to see you at some or all of this year's gatherings! Keep an eye out for other upcoming events for the group. The Dinner Diva Calendar is now available for 2009.
