BOMB THREATS

Bomb threats are usually received by telephone, but they may also be received by note or letter. All bomb threats should be taken very seriously and handled as though an explosive is in the building. If you are at home contact 9-1-1 immediately.

  • If you receive a bomb threat ask the caller the following questions:
    --Where is the bomb?
--When is it going to go off?
--What kind of bomb is it?
--What does the bomb look like?
--What will cause the bomb to explode?
--Why did you place the bomb?
    --What is your name?
    --Where do you live?

DO NOT UPSET THE CALLER IF AT ALL POSSIBLE.

  • Take good notes when talking to the person on the other line. Be aware of background noise, special voice characteristics, music, office machinery, etc.
  • If you are at work get a co-worker to call building security for you while you are on the phone. Have a plan as to how you are going to alert your co-worker. A simple piece of paper with the word "Bomb" would be sufficient.
  • If you find the bomb, don't touch it. Call for help and evacuate the area.
