New Organizational Structure
Detroit West District Council on Ministries

Function: Provide leadership, vision, coordination and support to the District Organization.

Meetings: At least Bi-monthly

Resource Team

Function: Identify needs and provide resources in the areas of Nurture--

Outreach---Witness

Meetings: As needed. Task groups may be formed for specific project from persons outside the team.

Special Initiatives Team

Function: Provide for and coordinate District events, projects, etc.

Meetings: as needed

Communications Team

Function: Provide for effective communications across the District and the churches of the District

Meetings: as needed

District Committees

Function: The Standing Committees of the District are provided for by the Discipline of the United Methodist Church and will carry out the responsibilities assigned to them.

Meetings: as set by the committees membership; as provided for by the Discipline and/or organizational policy.

Connection Keepers

Function: Provide information and/or resources to the various District teams and/or committees as appropriate.

Membership:

constituted of those persons serving on Conference agencies as respresentatives of the Detroit West District.

District Conference

Function: To provide for election of leaders, celebration of ministry, Vision lifting, needs assessment of local churches and other business as needed.

Membership:

Meetings: Annually (Spring)

District Plenary Session

Function: To provide for coordination, celebration and planning for the district organization.

Membership

All elected persons of the District Team and Committees.

Meeting: Annually (fall)

Nominations and Personnel

Function: To provide for the leadership needs of the District

Membership

Chairperson and 5 at large members

Meetings: as needed


Process

  1. Term of Office
    Term of Office will be 3 years with a maximum of 2 terms (unless specified by the Discipline).
  2. Local churches will be invited to nominate persons who express interest in serving to be a "nominations pool" from which the Nominations Committee will nominate.
  3. Task discriptions will be developed and person contacted directly for recruitment.
  4. The District Conference will elect upon nominations of the Nominations and Peronnel Committee with nominations from the floor permissible.
  5. Enabling Legislation
    That the present Nominating Committee, constituted by chairperson of the Nominations and the District Council on Ministry Executive Committee, act as the Nominations Committee for the transition period of to September 1, 1998 with election by written ballot of District Conference Delegates 1998 Session with 3 ballots going to each church.

Implementation and Timeline for New Structure

The new organizational Structure for the District will commence September 1, 1998 and terms of office shall be from September to September. The newly formed Leadership Team shall have responsibility for the implementation of the new structure in this transitional year.
