Our Purpose Statement

First United Methodist Church

De Queen, Arkansas

Our Vision: God’s people passionate about God’s purposes sharing God’s word and showing God’s love for the transformation of the world.

Our Mission: We are called to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world in Sevier County by doing no harm, doing good and staying in love with God.

Our Values: We believe in order for us to accomplish our mission and embody our vision as people passionate about God’s purposes for the transformation of the world, we have to be intentional about these five peculiar practices:

1.        Radical in showing hospitality to others.

We believe that showing hospitality is a biblical calling, modeled in the life of Jesus and embodied as a way of life in the early church. As God has befriended us in Christ we should seek to befriend strangers and others, inviting them to participate with us in accomplishing God’s purposes for the transformation of the world.

2.      Passionate in our worship of God.

We believe that God’s people were created to enjoy God’s presence and worship God with all that we are and all that we have. God created us for relationship and redeemed us to be his peculiar people in order to serve his particular purposes for the transformation of the world.

3.      Intentional in our growth as disciples.

We believe that God’s intention for all human beings that have fallen from grace is to be restored into God’s loving image and healed of the sin that distorts God’s loving purposes for the world. God desires us to be transformed people peculiar in our love for God and neighbor so that we might fulfill God’s redemptive purposes for the transformation of the world. Jesus has made this transformation possible through his redemptive life, his sacrificial death and his triumphant resurrection.

4.      Risk-taking in mission and service in our church, community and world.

We believe that God’s redemptive mission for the world is to reflect his realm of peace, justice, compassion, mercy and love for all of creation and every living person. God embodied this missional purpose passionately through the life of his Son, Jesus Christ. God risked everything for his redemptive missional purposes for the world, even sacrificing his most beloved treasure, Jesus Christ. As recipients of God’s redemption and reconciliation we are invited and called to be ambassadors of God’s missional purposes for the transformation of the world.

5.       Extravagant in our generosity as people who have been entrusted to manage God’s resources for God’s purposes to transform the world. We believe that all we have and all we are is a gift from God and that money matters to God. God desires us to share extravagantly all of our gifts – time, talent, and treasure – for his redemptive purposes for the transformation of the world.
