Tuesday Morning Bible Study - Questions of Faith
In coming weeks, the Tuesday morning Bible Study Class will focus on a four-session, video-based series entitled, “Questions of Faith.” Prominent contemporary thinkers explore perplexing and crucial questions from a faith perspective. They include Protestant, Jewish and Roman Catholic participants whose vocations range from priest to psychotherapist to Old Testament scholar to evangelist, to preacher to sociologist.
Basic questions of belief and meaning come to us over and over in our lives. Sometimes we think we have them answered. Other times we think we’ve gone beyond them or even lost interest. But the world and the circumstances of our lives change. So in every generation, we struggle to find meaning that fits with what we know. For those who are searching, striving to grow in faith, and trying to relate belief to life, the insights offered in this series can be helpful and stimulating. From June 9th through June 30, 2009, the following series will be offered:
Oct. 6 -- What’s the Nature of Human Nature? What does it mean that we are made in the image of God? Are people innately good or sinful?
Oct. 13 -- Whose Life Is Sacred? What does it mean to say that human life is sacred? Is ending life ever justified?
Oct. 20 -- Whose World Is It? What should be our attitude toward nature? What can we do about the environment?
Oct. 27 -- What’s the Holy Spirit? Who or what is the Holy Spirit? Do you experience the Holy Spirit in your life?
Nov. 3 -- (No class session on this date)
Nov. 10 -- What’s Religious? What does it mean to be religious? Is that the same as being spiritual?
Nov. 17 -- Why Hope? What is hope? What’s the difference between faith and hope? How do you find hope in the face of suffering?
The morning study will take place on Tuesday mornings from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the 4th Floor Lounge of the Oakdale Wing of Franciscan Oaks (the retirement center “around the corner” at 19 Pocono Road, with parking across the street). Everyone is welcome to attend all or some of these sessions as their schedule permits. For more information call the Church Office (973-627-1041) or via email.
