CHURCH HISTORY
1957-2000
For forty-three years, Delta United Methodist Church has brought the message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the Delta Lake community. Ever since those first visionaries began meeting at the fire house, and dreamed of a new church building, faithful believers have dedicated themselves to that mission, as well as to unselfish service to this community.

In 1957, services were held in the "new" church parsonage which was consecrated by Bishop W. Earl Ledden and Mohawk District Superintendent, Rev. Allen T. Dodge. For over three years, the parsonage served as the center for worship, and the hub of the community.

In 1959, twenty-three members of the church pledged $7,717.00 toward a new church building. About thirty-five more pledges were received in a three day fund drive,  and Delta UMC was on the move. Seventy plus members attended a dinner which kicked off the find drive.

On Sunday September 17, 1961, the chapel, fellowship hall, and kitchen were used for the first time. Things appeared to be moving along nicely for Delta, and in 1962, the Educational Annex was dedicated. This addition to the church building currently houses the Delta Methodist Nursery school, the "Corner Closet" consignment store, the choir room, and an additional class room.

Several pastors and their families have provided spiritual growth and nurturing through four decades. One such family is with us today in the person of retired Pastor Rev. Chuck Rudd and his wonderful wife, Ellie. Our church is currently under the care and nurture of Rev. Arthur Miner. Art resides in the parsonage located adjacent to the church parking lot.

Delta United Methodist Church acknowledges its connection with the North Central New York Annual Conference under our resident Violet Fisher and the Mohawk District under Superintendent Rev. Carl Johnson. We join with United Methodists world wide in proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and savior, and in the missions of the world wide Church.

On Sunday October 26, 1997 Delta United Methodist Church celebrated it's 40th anniversary with a special worship service and banquet. Guests present included Rev. Leland Webster, former District Super indent; Rev. Chuck Rudd, former pastor from 1968-1978; and Rev. William Master, former pastor from 1961-1964. Retired, Rev. Rudd has been appointed "Pastor Emeritus." He and his wife Ellie are currently active in the life and ministry of the our church.

A beautiful display of the history of our church was prepared and presented by Dorothy Delaney, Joyce Endres, Flo Williams, and Marietta Wright. It was one of the highlighs of our celebration.

Although Bishop, Hae Jong Kim, was not available in October, he joined our celebration on Sunday November 30th. It was an honor and a pleasure to have him here, and to listen to his inspiring message, 'HAVE VISION .. WILL TRAVEL". We look forward to many more years of ministry to the people of the Lake Delta community.
