During this past year, my role in DCUMM has changed significantly. When I was appointed as Associate Pastor to DCUMM effective July 1, 2008, I was absolutely thrilled to be able to continue working with the church as well as to expand my work at Garrett College.
As an Associate Pastor, my role is to
help disciples with their spiritual journeys, assisting and guiding in any way I
can. I am also called to help
clearly cast the vision, and help the congregation internalize it and make it
truly their own. With God’s help and through prayer we have accomplished a
lot for a church our size. Our
community of disciples is very active in reaching out into the community to
share the message and love of Jesus with others.
We have been called into a very relational commitment when we became
followers of Jesus Christ. We
commit to a relationship with our Creator, and to a relationship with each other
as a community of believers. We are
called to have empathy, compassion, understanding, patience, kindness,
forgiveness, and thoughtfulness. In
order to accomplish this immense task, we must be willing to be there. This is the
ministry that we are all called to as followers of Jesus Christ.
Just as Christ fed the hungry, healed the sick, and cared for the lowly,
we to are called to be there when someone is hurting or hungry both physically
and spiritually and fulfill the need to the best of our abilities.
To me, this is the quintessential essence of pastoral care and support,
as well as the calling of every disciple of Jesus Christ.
We must all be ready to love each other as Christ loves us and care for
them in any way possible.
By being a church united, all working
toward the common goal of making disciples for Jesus Christ, we can walk
together with Christ on this spiritual journey we are all traveling.
By being a church united in prayer and by faith, all things are possible
with Christ by our side.
