 History

There being no church in the immediate vicinity, neighbors gathered to worship in the Armistead School, the log building on the top of the hill.

Then in 1889, they decided that a church, a special place of worship was needed. A plot of ground, sufficient for a church building and a cemetery, was deeded to a group of Trustees by William H. and Missouri Belle Speicher. Plans were made and building began. Paradise United Brethren Church was dedicated in 1894. ("Paradise" comes from an ancient Greek word, "paradeisos", meaning "garden".)

In 1946, the Evangelical and United Brethren denominations united to become the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

A new foundation with basement was excavated 60 feet from the building. The church was moved, remodeled, and rededicated in 1951.

In 1961, an adjacent plot of land was acquired for future development, given by Mr. Randall Harvey in exchange for family burial rights in the Church cemetery.

With the union of the Methodist and E. U. B. Churches in 1968, the local church became Paradise United Methodist Church. In 1993, a meeting room/kitchenette and indoor bathroom were added.

Its purpose continues to be to "Honor our Heavenly Father and to serve the community".
