Youth Mission Trip

Annually our youth spend a week traveling to various parts of the country to help repair communities in need.  Partnering with the Group Workcamps Foundation, a typical trip will involve 450 youth and counselors, renovating about 60 homes.  They are divided up into crews of 4 or 5 youth and one or two adults.  They will do painting (both interior and exterior), building of wheel chair ramps, sheet rock, minor carpentry, flooring, porch repair, step repair etc.  The residents have been selected by the local community and are handicapped, senior citizens or working poor.

The next Youth Mission Trip is scheduled for July 24 - August 1, 2010 in Centralia, IL.

For more information about the Group Workcamps Foundation, you can visit their web site at www.groupworkcamps.org.

One Great Hour of Sharing

One Great Hour of Sharing is one of the six church wide Special Sundays with offerings of The United Methodist Church. One Great Hour of Sharing enables the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) to live out its mission to alleviate human suffering.  UMCOR responds to natural or human made disasters - those interruptions of such magnitude that they overwhelm a community's ability to recover on its own.

One Great Hour of Sharing is celebrated on the fourth Sunday in Lent.

The next One Great Hour of Sharing will take place on Sunday, March 14, 2010.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Pastor Betty with some of the prayer shawls

The DeBows Prayer Shawl Ministry has been in existence since the Fall of 2008.  Its members lovingly donate their time and talents by creating hand-knitted and crocheted shawls for those in need.  Because there are so many people in need of prayer, and because we want to do more than say we are praying for them here at DeBows United Methodist Church, this ministry offers tangible evidence of our prayers and concern.

This is an on-going ministry.  The prayer shawls are normally distributed during Advent season to local nursing homes and during the Youth Mission Trip.
