A Short History of United Methodist Women!
From 1869 to 1893, our foremothers organized eight foreign
and home missionary societies...the first was the Woman’s Foreign
Missionary Society of The Methodist Episcopal Church, and the last was
the Woman’s Home Missionary Society of The Methodist Protestant Church.
Through various denominational unions and mergers, the
organization that has become known as United Methodist Women has
experienced changes in names and structure, but our purpose has remained
the same. Like our predecessors, members of United Methodist Women have
made a lifetime commitment to Christ’s mission in the world. For more
than 100 years, members have been united to pray together, raise money
for mission and improve the lives of women, children and youth around
the world.
