United Methodist Women
The United Methodist Women coordinate Apple Butter making, which has been an outstanding social event in the church and community for over 60 years. The event brings people together from many different backgrounds and denominations. The UMW uses the profits to help support many mission projects. Over 1000 gallons were made in 1991.
The UMW is instrumental in supporting the church through its giving. They also cater dinners for weddings, funerals, etc. Whenever there is a special need, the women are the first to volunteer their support.
United Methodist Women meet the second Thursday of each month at 7:30 at alternating members' homes. New members are welcomed!
Parish Nurse Program
Joyce Hedrick is our Parish Nurse. The Parish Nurse Program's responsibility is to make the congregation aware of healthful programs offered by the community. Joyce does a blood pressure clinic during Sunday School several Sunday's a month. The group has formed a 'walk club' to promote exercising and is participating in various other 'healthy' activities.
Missions
We have a varied mission program at Davis Memorial through which we emphasize local, national and international missions. We desire to spread the love of Jesus Christ not only by words but through deeds.
Mission projects which the church has supported are:
Interfaith Food Pantry
Cumberland Nursing Home
Salem Children's Home
Church Grove
The grove and pavilion behind the church are used for church and community activities. They are reserved throughout the summer for family reunions, picnics, etc.
Cemetery
Davis Memorial has a large cemetery in adjoining lots. Burial plots are for sale at reasonable prices. The newer sections offer perpetual care. The cemetery has also been a source of income for many years, and is a scenic and peaceful setting.
Accessibility
We are located on Uhl Highway, which is not a heavy traffic area now that the new Route 51 section has been open. The paved driveway is kept cleaned of snow in the winter, and there are handicapped parking spaces provided. The church also has a wheelchair ramp, making it accessible for handicapped worshippers.
